My chickens know what to do in this dreary weather. Here's today's catch, not too bad for 10 hens.

I'm sure that largest one is a double-yolk.

But uz too sharp, like those eggs..
Sure looks like a pound cake to me.
Better keep them busy and on them eggs or they might freeze . The cold use to affect mine when they were laying . I was told i think that a hen will lay every 28 hours . I think i need to fix my old pen up and get me some more . Mt coup is still good . Fence is down . Lot of work , maybe not .
i like your thinking stevej
That's a purty good henway right there !!
that one on the top left has got to be a double yoke. you might want to give her the day off tommorrow:biggrin
We've gotten several double yolks so far. Today is the first time we've gotten eggs from all of them in one day. Normally we get 6 or 7 a day.
Looks like that hen needed an epidural. Lol

You got a rooster ?
No rooster, just 10 hens.
Scott knows when to crow and when to shut-up.
ha ha ha :Rofl
Looks like a good start on breakfast :biggrin
Hey Scott
What kind of chickens you got?
Rhode island Reds or Black Sex-Links?(Brown Eggs)
I have 14 (10 Sex-links/4 Reds)
I get about 10-12 eggs a day.
My hens are 9 month old and laying real good.
With cost of feed, I might be better off buying eggs Ha! Ha!.
I am selling my eggs for $3.00 a Dzn. Can't keep up with the demand.
They gettin it done now
What about the brown eggs in Kroger, would they be as good as yours Scott??
It also has a lot to do with whats in the chicken feed.....these big egg farms trick them everyway they can to mass produce.....special lights to extend simulated daylight hours, and then steroids, and chemicals in the feed etc. Home grown like Scotts doing eating cracked corn and other grains and the other stuff he talks about.....its more natural and that makes it better I think.
My granddaughter has eight hens and gives us fresh eggs.I don't eat store bought anymore.
get you a rooster and that will change the taste too . lol my ex father -in law raised chickens for hatching eggs . helped him many a day thousands by hand . couldn't shake them had to put them in the crate with the small end down . got all the eggs i could eat for free .
They sho are better than store bought.
We have 49 chickens.....2 Red Star roosters, 3 Red Star hens, 4 silver Wyandote hens, 8 Rhode Island Red hens, 1 white hen, 13 Golden Laced Seabright bantams, 18 black white bantams (don't know what breed they are) and 3 ducks, 5 Nigerian Dwarf goats (2 of which we milk twice a day), 1 hog (which will become ham, pork chops and such in about 2 weeks) and a horse.
And I thought I had a lot to feed every day!!!!
Man that is a full time job feeding all of that livestock, Stickum
I keep several of the golden comets,Great layers and very people friendly,After you eat fresh eggs you won't go back to those yucky storebought eggs that have been stocked for three months before being sold .And my wife uses only fresh eggs for baking, sure makes a difference
I just think about the fruits of our labor, from the chickens (eggs) and the delicious goat milk and we make goat cheese too...Mmm. Then when that hog gets turned into ham, bacon, chops, etc...MMmmmm :biggrin
Save me a bite or two of that bacon and goat cheese my friend....won't be long now:fish
I'm in quite the jam over these chickens. We got 16 hatchlings back in October and my kids have raised them and of coarse named them. Turns out we have 7 roosters that need to go bye bye but the kids won't have it. I hoping that when they start crowing at 4:30 in the morning and waking them up they will have a change of heart. We'll see!!
Good luck with that Kelly
