Anybody been down that way?
Haven't been to either lately. The latest agfc fishing report said crappie were excellent in 10-12 foot of water on blue/white jigs and minnows. My dad and aunt went to old town about 2 weeks ago and he caught a dozen or so nice ones but I'm not sure his jig color.
Never been to either but with all this rain in sure Mississippi lake are over for few days... Do they spider rig down there much?
Old town is river fed. But yeah I've seen people spider rig both more so bear creek then old town though.
Bear Creek's full of bream and bass, but not many crappie....don't really know why. Several years ago it had a world of big crappie. If you catch any there now though, they'll be big.
Bear creek has a 9.9 hp limit.
5.43 inches of rain at Old Town yesterday. It's so muddy you can track a coon across it!!
Bear Creek's prob. muddy too, but at least it clears up pretty quickly.
trust me! that muddy water is a good good thing for either of those lakes! i love getting hung up in those cypress trees at old town. i drag one out once in a while. Hope the river gets in oldtown but not sure?
Yes the river will get into old town. Not sure at what level but my grandpa has taken me several times to the river off of old town.
Lost hunter I think that is correct. I think Xpress is thinking about Old River being connected to the Mississippi.
Either way, it is some kind of muddy. I'll be back by there on Thursday and again on Sunday. I'll look at the water and let you guys know.
Old town is connected to white river by that canal. I always figured that was the reason the cats taste better than midway fish which is off the Mississippi.
i thought the canal was a one way road so to speak ,,,water goes out but not in
and i agree have to be careful with midway cats some do taste funny
Any word on mellwood or snowlake?
That is true to a point losthunter. That canal drains into Big Creek and Big Creek drains into White River. When the water in the White River is high enough and the gates are open letting water out of Old Town, there is a connection. I hear the locals say that is when the crappie are running from the White into Old Town.
