Cool jigs! Also noticed he gets them size #6 through 10 from RonDon.
Yeah fly patterns on jig heads are fun!!!!!!! The biggest thing you'll run into is the hook point has to be up to tie most of them. To save getting stabbed get a square pencil eraser and cut some small pieces to cover the hook point!!!
Have an old Vermont magazine that has an article on tying flies on jigs, tried to upload it but it said it was too big. I'll try a different way when I get home.
I have been using the jigflys for pan fish with good success. Any terrestrial pattern that will catch trout will usually catch pan fish.
Those are very nice. We have a member that posted some of his jig-flies that looks like those in the pictures, may be the same person.
very cool
thank you snake river
Very interesting.
I use this type of jig mainly during the soft water season. The presentation is subtle under a balanced bobber. Since the jig is motionless the fish have plenty of time the eye ball the lure.
The painted jig heads are a darter and tube. I use acetate floss or wool yarn to build up the bodies, rubber legs are added if so desired. The bodies are then wrapped with a dubbing noodle or leech yarn. This gives the jig a hairy bug look.
Since the pan fish are bug eaters any of the trout terrestrial patterns will work well .

I want some like the thread starter has, meaning jig heads like that.
Justin ties some amazing jigs and flies! Those were when he was a rookie you can imagine what they are like now!
if the school the panfish or taring up your jig fly up you are doing something right for sure when I was 16 back in the 60s I was using a marabou jig when they first started to sell in Portland Oregon they did not have any Chanel on them just a ball jig. In marabou I tore off most marabou just leave enough to wiggle in it was a killer. Which would be similar to your little jigs there that's why they are so attractive to panfish because they have a little tale that wiggles enough to attract her attention I never did like monstrous jigs to fish with and I still prefer small ones.
The article on tying patterns on jig hooks is too big to upload.
I start out large and down size until the fish tell me what they want to eat. It seems that the dinks nip the tail material off and the larger fish destroy the body material. Thank goodness the pan fish do not have teeth and only have a rough mouth. I always make up at the least six jigflys of a given pattern. This is in case the jig dies or I get bit off/broke off by a Northern or LM Bass. Of course there are my fishing buddies I have to supply if I have a hot jig. :-)
