Alabama Rig Survey

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) would like to collect information about the use of the Alabama Rig in Arkansas. The AGFC has been conducting angler surveys (either on the water or at the boat ramp) on 16 lakes and 4 pools of the Arkansas River since May 2012. However, the AGFC would like to reach a larger number of anglers, so we have developed a short online survey to solicit opinions concerning the Alabama Rig. We encourage Arkansas anglers (regardless of preferred species) to participate in this effort. Please click on this link (Alabama Rig Online Survey) to fill the survey out. By gathering anglers' opinions of the Alabama Rig, the AGFC can evaluate its potential impacts on fisheries in Arkansas. We appreciate your participation in this survey. Yeah...riiiight.... Is the agfc thinking of selling them? If they are collecting data, they are thinking of regulating them. I for one will not participate in the survey.

doesn't matter how you catch them if a guy is going to cut there heads off , he is going to do it regardless of his technique and he still has to follow regulations. I do agree with DEEZER , they are thinking of regulating them or would not be asking. Wish they would spend more time stocking fish and improving habitat and less time making rules.

I want to say a personal thank you to all of you that have participated in the survey. The AGFC Commissioner tasked me with developing a study to look at the use of the Alabama Rig in Arkansas. When it first came out there was a lot of questions about the Alabama Rig and the AGFC didn’t have any information about it. I wanted a way for everyone to express their own opinion of the rig and the results of the study will be presented to the Commissioner. This is why I developed this survey to go along with the on the water surveys.

Again, I want to say thank you for your time answering this survey.

I have had bad experience around those things. Green Carp fishermen scared the Crappie last year on Fouche River when that piece of hardware hit the water near us.

I say do not regulate a fishing lure... I watch guys slinging them and they dont apprear to be catching anymore than a good crank bait, spinnerbait and or worm and jig fisherman. I agree with Goose also.

The AGFC does not plan on banning or even regulating the Alabama Rig at this point. There are a lot of opinions on the Alabama Rig since it became popular in November 2011. We just wanted to collect your opinion of the Alabama Rig.

Blackriver373 is correct that we are having low water level problems in a couple of the lakes in NE Ark that I manage. We have the pump on at one of the lakes and will have two more on by next week after this rain event.

Easy boys he's just doing his job. I for one think we have one of the best game and fish operations in the country ie boat ramps parking and well stocked lakes and rivers. This contraption they call the Alabama rig looks like a lot of work to me and I ain't into working when I'm fishing but to each his on as long as they don't keep more than the limit. I say leave it alone.

The same thing could be asked about the 3 shot limit on shotguns while hunting ducks, doves etc. Why can't I drag a hoop net up and down Piney creek for crappie as long as I keep only 20. Lines have to be drawn somewhere. Just where is the question.. My $.02 worth.

You just gotta understand, there are some out there that no matter what the AGFC does, they will say its stupid just because its the AGFC. I say those people are pretty much loosers. They should look at the good things they do.

Ok, I'll give yall the benefit of the doubt. There is no plan to regulate the rig. I still have a beef. Why are agfc resources being used on such a survey? Agfc is a deptartment of state government set up to manage the natural, game & fish resources which belong to the people of this great state. I think overall they do a good job of that. However, since they are a state agency, and I support them with my tax dollars and liscense fees, I feel I am entitled to speak out against something that seems to me to be a poor use of public resources. I am not trying to be malicious at all, but if there is no plan to regulate it, then there is no need to use manpower at boat ramps and in the office developing a survey. I know Mojo is just doing his job, but coming from a fellow public servant, i know he understands people speaking out whe they don't see eye to eye with the departments philosophy. If the director of the agfc wants more info on the alabama rig, he should go throw one and maybe read some articles or watch the video at wal-mart. On his own time of course. Just my 2 cents worth. :-)

Arkansas has some of the greatest fishing anywhere!!! Arkansas lakes and streams are home to several not only state records but world records!!!! This great fishing is because of the hard work the Arkansas Game and fish,men,women that devote their time,Brushpiles in lakes,creel surveys they do. Keep up the great work ARKANSAS GAME AND FISH!!!! Ray i think Goose is talkng about a fishing lure to catch em...Not a shotgun, shrimpboats or nets or TNT. I could be wrong. LOL Do you really think the alabama rig will be the demise of bass fishing. Ill bet It's the ones that have never tried it or caught fish on it that are complaining. Your right lines do haft to be drawn...but when we haft to draw the line over the alabama rig ...lord help us.Just Sayin.

A Alabama rig looks like a chandelier, it looks like some thing to hang over your diner table for light to eat by. I personally threw one about 10 times and said forget this junk, to much work, and cut it of and gave it to my fishing partner. I say get rid of the things and make bass fisherman catch bass on fish at at a time, make it sporting. In bass tournaments you are restricted to one pole at a time by the rules, so if that being the case, why not allow bass fisherman to fish with multiple poles during tournaments.

I got a spider rig in my attic that has rwo seats and 12 yes 12 pole holders. I no lohger feel the need for trawling. Since I fish strictly for sport these days. i'd like to see everyone restricted to using 2 hooks period. If not why not make it anything goes as long as you don't exceed creel limits?:Rofl

Notice in my post that I said the line has to be drawn some where but where is the question. I'm not saying it should be drawn at the Ala rig. There has been major advances in fishing electronics, boats and techniques over the last few years to increase the fishermans chances. Every advantage for us is another disadvantage for the fish, hence, the line has to be drawn somewhere. Hope I cleared that up.

I have seen so many advances in equipment and knowledge, more fishermen on the water even during the week increasing pressure on the resources. I keep wondering when we will start see'n declines in our fisheries to the point of limiting fishing days with seasons, limits, and or methods. We are blessed to have so good of fisheries here. Lots of states have had to limit fishing to perserve the resource. I would hate to see fishing seasons and reduced limits, hope it never gets that bad here.:twocents

We use one (1) hook per pole .....that's all we have ever needed. Tried a double rig one time in a tournament and wound up cutting the second hook off after the first couple of hours because in our opinion it wasn't helping. BTF, we got a first in the tourney (Crappie USA 2/18/12). If it gets to the point that I have to throw a wad of hardware like the AL Rig to catch Crappie I'll start looking for a good nursing home!!!

A lure or bait is just another tool so is the alabama rig!!! yes in the right hands it is deadly with 5 arms and 5 swimbaits. The big high dollar crankbaits $25.00 ea for a handpainted special built one of a kind has 2 great big trebel hooks(TROKAR) with 3 points on each hook(6) total espically bad with the death grip(TROKAR) trebel hooks that will cut you just looking at them nothing has ever been said about banning these deadly baits. A carpenter does not have only one hammer he has many tools for the job and WOW they (carpenters) or good an expensive these days. On our (White river) trout waters they have gone to a no cull rule.Once you have your limit of trout in your livewell or stringer or cooler you must release the rest back to the water!!! catch as many as you want can only keep the limit.You just stop at one shy of the limit and keep catching trout as many as a 100 in a day.I know it trout!! You would'nt believe the money spent each on trout equipment not to mention the houses they are building so they can be close to the water!!!! Has not hurt the trout fishing yes they are stocked .Buy again our AGFC "World Class Trout Fishing" Some of the best if not the best in the World!!!! Several states have gone to this rule. Hope Arkansas Doesn't.The YO YO'S is something we see as a problem!!!They put them on every limb leave them forever and dead fish hanging from them.I kmow where one is now that was left last spring with a 2 lb crappie dangling from it the bones are still hanging from it know!!! It was left during high water ( can't reach) or we would have cut it down.

Here lately every thread is getting hijack over who uses what and how many to catch fish and this need to stop period. This forum is for learning not a platform to push your way of fishing on the other guy or belittle him because he does not fish the way you do.

God was way ahead of the curve on protecting over fishig from us game hogs he invented the cold front stops me in my tracks every time
