Taxidermist ???
I just found out I will be getting my grandfathers largemouth bass mount. It was caught in the mid 80's and could use some cleaning and touch up. I believe it was on my 9th birthday when he caught it. Can't remember how long it was but it weighed just over 9 lbs. I caught one the same day that weighed 5 1/2 lbs and we both had them mounted here in Clinton at Dan's Outdoor Life studio. He moved his shop to Deepwater but has closed in the last year or two. So I am looking for someone that does quality work to get this back to new condition. I remember Slayer posting a very nice crappie mount that he had done somewhere around KC. If anyone knows of a good place let me know.

Timely thread, I too have a old lmb mount I'd like to have touched up for the office.

Jared, I don't know anyone around the KC area but there's a place just S. of Bolivar called Rattlin Horns Taxidermy that's done a Walleye for me and a couple bucks for my bro-in-law that I would recommend if you don't find a place closer. His address is 4963 Grant Rd. Morrisville Mo. 65710 (417-376-2793)

jared mine was done by craig jone's on the independence square... me and several of my buddie's have had him do our crappie, havent seen how his bass look... i'm sure he does a fine job. i did take a crappie up there that my dad had mounted in 1987 i believe... wanted him to touch it up as it was faded and look's pretty bad. he took a good look at it and he asked if it had some sentimental value and of course it does cuz my dad passed 7 year's ago. he told me it was just to fragile and he did'nt wanna take a chance on ruining it. so i have it hanging up anyway and almost look's like a white bass now. his number is (816) 254-1013... may wanna give him a call and tell him what you have and what your wanting to do... good luck!

Taxidermy Net: Taxidermist Links by State Go here and scroll down to Missouri, you will find tons of Taxidermists listed some may not do fish but its a registry of those that do work in MO. Always ask for work pictures of products that they have done, never go off of yea I can do that. Ask to see photos of exactly what you want done and as close to the pose as you want.
I dont do fish, I only do mammals. To do fish right it takes time and a steady hand when painting and the use of lots of live color references to ensure the colors are correct as well as the patterns. Do you want it to look like a mounted fish or as close to a live fish as possible? That is the question you ask yourself when looking at Taxidermist work. If it looks like its dead then its not that good. But if it looks as if it could be a live then that is better. Just look at lots of photos of taxidermist work out there, there are a lot of them on google, images. Good Luck to you bud.

That is where I was looking last night at all the different ones. Lots to choose from for sure. This one is mounted and on a very nice piece of driftwood. Just needs some cleaning and maybe a little touch up. I have not went to get it yet and have not looked at it real close for a while to see if there is any thing such as cracks or paint flaking off. Hope to pick it up later today and check it out better to see what I need to have done.
