Messing around this evening & tied up a dozen of these in different colors combinations. Does anyone use jigs with a silicone skirt flared like this? If so, do they work well? This is just the second type of jig that I've tied other than marabou tails...I'm enjoying experimenting.

I do and they work well. Those are some nice looking ties. I also tie just the silicone combos without chaneal on plain hooks to use on my spider rigs tipped with minnows.
Thanks Cray, I'll keep that in mind. I've read about other members that do that...Donnie(CrappieLogic) comes to mind as he has some great looking gnats. Skip has some good looking hackle & silicone skirt jigs as well. That's just to name a couple. CDC has been a great resource for learning with a bunch of great people that don't mind helping others.
Nice work. They work well for me, usually tipped with minnows. I tie a 1/8 with lots of rubber and a red thread neck that does real good when deep jigging.
I use a jig with rubber hackle tails and they worked well last summer on crappies and gills.
This type of tail material is quite durable and stand up well to the small panfish attacks. I believe silicone is more durable than the rubber hackle.
I can fish this type of lure day after day where as a tube last an hour at the most.Attachment 110991
Looks good. I have a lot of colors of that stuff and like it alone and with hackle.

Thank bfish, it's actually happening during the normal tying process. The amount of pressure from the thread at the rear of the hook pretty much dictates the degree of flair.
Skip, thanks for the help a few days ago. Going to get some hackle and incorporate it in next like the jig in your avatar.
Did you have to move up to kevlar or higher denier thread? Just seems like more flair than I am use to seeing (and I like it:biggrin).Quote:
