Are they the PSTs and how long?
They are the bnm West Point 12' for 29.99 a piece.
B'nM has a lot of differen't crappie poles.......which ones are you looking at ? I uses PST's for pulling crankbaits, and I use 14 ft. Capps and Coleman Trolling rods for spider rigging, and I use the Sam Heaton Super Senistive for single Poleing.
West Points have been around a LONG time and caught a bunch of feshes.
I have had four of them for three years. I know these are tough, for I have snagged them in brush and bent the crap out of them. I don't they are as sensitive as some, but for the price I am satisfied.
What's a good choice for a reel?
I use baitcasters.

Have y'all got a particular model?
On the baitcasters.....I just get what is cheap from Grizzly JIg....I presently have Shakesperes........Get a baitcaster with the thumb bar on them.....makes it a lot easier to bring a fish in with a 14 ft. pole when your only fishing 5 or 6 ft. deep.
x2 on the bait casters with thumb bar from grizzly. i got four of them and they work great specially when your fishin alone.
anything that is cheap and holds fishing line with a crank. the reel isnt important.
grizzly jigs has a baitcaster 4 for $30
To me.....a baitcaster with the thumb bar feature is very importand......some of these cheap so called baitcasters do not have a thumb bar or even a drag. If you do not see any on the Grizzly site or catalog does not mean they do not have them ......give them a call and talk to Lou and tell him what your looking for....If you buy four or more he will usually make you a good deal. I think I gave about 18 bucks apiece for mine.
I have 6 of the 12 foot BnM West Point poles. They are NOT graphite, but again, for the price, they are not bad. They are MUCH heavier than the graphites but since I only spider rig with mine, I dont have to lift them except to take of a feesh or two..... You can spend two or three times as much, but I bet you wont catch two or three times more with the more expensive models....... If you are gonna be a competitive fisherman, and every single fish is that important, maybe go with the high priced stuff, but if you are just fishin for fun, save some money and take an extra fishing trip or two!
Oh, and I use Shakespear Alpha spinning reels. Cheap from Wal Mart online. If I had it to do again, would probably go with cheap baitcasters, though. Line is closer to the pole at the butt end, and this seems to reduce tangles when moving from location to location.
Gator and I also use spinning reels, BPS crappie maxx
G, that thumb bar is the most important feature to me, plus lower profile than a spinning and no tangles from line curling.
I must agree with G on this, if ya gonna slow troll get ya either some PST or Capps and Coleman, either of the two will do fine, just be sure and get at least 14 footers if ya gonna slow troll, now they arent for jiggin but I got 2 Sam Heatons in 11 foot for jiggin. This is prolly gonna open a dead horse beatdown but in my honest opinion the 14 footers will outcatch the shorter poles when the fish are shallow, 6 foot of water or less, its common sense if ya 2 foot farther from the fish he is less likely to spook, now yall can commence to beatin this horse lol.
From what i have seen of Gander Mountains prices you gonna need that gift certificate for sure. Them folks be proud of their stuff!
You can buy 2 of those for 60.00 or go to Grizzly Jig and buy 4 Pinnacals for 60.00 and have the same quality Fiberglass pole. Spend you cards on something else that you wouldn't normally buy.:twocents
I went cheap also. I fish with 10- B n M West points in 12 ft. With Zebco Authenic 11's I restrung with 10# Cajun Red And a 10# flouro leader for my droppers.Don't overload them. I use them just for line storage and don't need 240 yds. on my poles! I have put slimers up to 10#'s and Green carp to 5#'s in the boat with these poles. They got plenty of backbone and may not be as sensitive as your higher price rods but if you pay attention you will catch your fair share! You can always paint the tips with yellow florescent paint. As for a single poler, I have a Uncle Bucks in a 12Ft.Really want to buy a really good jigging pole in 11 Ft.Ain't decided witch one yet!I paid $25 for the West Points off E-Bay!so $29 ain't bad!If I can help you in any way feel free to PM me. I'm just a fisherman like you!
My Christmas gift from you must have been lost in the mail......that $400 card would be a nice replacement.
