Henderson Monday 12/24

Got my Christmas present today......Yard Leave......so, I zipped over to Henderson after that early rain disappeared...fished 9:30 to 2:30......2 in the boat real quick then slow......used blue & white 3 tail some and SHINERS some...right off the bottom in 7 to 10 FOW under the I10 bridge....they have been liking it slow....only wound up with 6 but they were 10" to 12"....just enuf for mama & I for 2 meals......guy fishing close to me said they bit good real early.....all the bass fishermen were having a real good day....water color still looks real good.....went up north for a while but nothing there....back at the launch as I jumped off the front of the boat at the bank something shiny caught my eye in the edge of the water....reached down and found 3 dimes and a quarter....I love to find money.....found 2 dollars recently on the bank at the same spot....

Not bad,especially with river on slight rise....I should've gone there instead of wasting my time in Lake Martin.

Bruce, Merry Christmas to you and Didi. Sounds like you had fun :) Always and added bonus to catch fish. My day was booked with wife's family for lunch and my family for dinner. Eager to get back out soon.

I forgot to mention it but a bass fisherman said he lost the biggest bass he ever hung (spinner bait).......got it to the boat and saw it's huge mouth before it broke his 15# braided line....said it must have been at least 10#.....

I talked to that same guy .He was sick for loosing such a big bass.I was sick for him.I wound up with 3 really nice sacs,I caught all 3 as soon as I got out at around 1030.Just missed the bite I guess.

You might have to do like my son and get a metal detector. He is getting addicted to finding coins.

On the fish. Do you find a fish finder helpful when the fish are that deep. I'm toying with the idea of getting one for the yak.

yes.....first and foremost, you can see how deep the water is.....with a deep draft boat that is crucial to me.....also, you can see whether the fish are suspended ....like 3 or 4 feet deep or if they are just above the bottom.....you can also detect structure (treetops), brushpiles or schools of bait fish where the larger fish usually hang around.....

Bruce, I forgot to tell you I lost 2 dollars and some change at the landing. The dollars had a picture of George Washington on them, if you need to identify them for me. Please hold them till I see you again.While I'm at it I lost six crappies over there also. Hope you had a great Christmas. Danny ps- nothing makes a fish larger than almost catching him, I know I've missed (and told) some whoppers.

I feel like it would help, and I just need a few more plus thoughts like you gave to push me over the line. I'm trying to stay simple, but for years I had one on my commercial boat and I miss seeing the bottom. One of my local mentors told me I don't need one and that all the top crappie fishermen avoid them. Now I really respect his opinion, but I'm thinking about going against what he said. He didn't fish crappie much in the cold times and I think that's when it would be a big plus. Not so much when they are right on the bank, but I'm guessing.

I agree, knowing the depth of the water is primary. Secondly, for me, is to finding the structure such as channels, ledges, points, etc. Then, where the fish are suspended.

Hey MMT,

I use one in the winter sometimes for checking water temp. I'm looking for the canals with the warmest water. Which should mean fish that are more active.
As for checking water depth I just stick my jig pole down till I hit bottom. If the bottom is deeper than 10' I'll use my jig and line to tell. HTH
