Searing a piece of meat is one of the best things you can do for it, gonna be good.

Careful with the booze and brisket. I once did the same thing and had to much of the booze. Woke up the next morning with a headache and what started as a 15 lb brisket had transformed into a 5 lb piece of beef jerky.
