Nah I try to stay away from the heavies if I can. I get a headache before I even quit drinking. Yea most fish there are 8-12 inches. Caught bigger ones 10-14 yesterday. Only reason I like going is because it only cost me about 10 bucks to fish all together. Only 5 mins from the house. 5 to get in .75 in boat gas and bout 4 in the truck. Why would I go anywhere else. I catch fish like this everytime I go. But occasionally I do like to go the big lakes and catch some better fish when I got the extra money or something.mainly just putting a few in the freezer now

I tell ya what, have a fish fry and fry up about half big fillets and half smaller ones and see which ones leave the plate first.
I like the smaller fillets. Gotta better taste to them in my opinion. Not too much work if u got a good electric fillet knife. Knocked those out in a little over an hour. I know you don't get as much from them but 4 hours of non stop reeling and throwing and taking the fish off will really wear you out. Be great to take some kids to get them interested.

77 7 and 8 inch fish and 2 at 13 is pretty good i guess
South, I hope you didnt throw any back, just peeing in the wind if you are releasing any of them. Had a lake here that I used to fish before they closed it that I kept everyone I caught, if they werent big enuff to eat then they could fertilise a garden or ditch for that matter.

Rees. No I don't throw any back and try to encourage everyone out there to do the same. As u said garden or cats or road ditch.
The fish are there the big ones are few and far between but if there wasn't as much competition for food I believe way healthier and at least have thicker fillets and b pretty fat.
I even marked a few shad balls the other day so I know there is a few shad left just not many.

My not have been shad balls, may have been schools of small crappie. Have seen it that way in a couple of the water sheds here. Good deal on taking them out, only way to hope to make a diffeence.
I don't think you were seeing shad.....think it was some other baitfish.....probably golden shiners
i have been there hundreds of times back 20 years we would pull our camper there cause the wife loves the campground and I would fill a 48 quart cooler to the top with 8 to 10 inch fish davis lake has always been like that the lake is to small to grow decent size fish any biologist will tell you that
I have been fishing Davis off and on since 1963........Donnie is right.
anybody can catch a cooler full all you need is a 4 foot ultra light rig and a 1/32nd oz jig cast and count down and kill em they are like piranhas in the spring you can catch them 1000 a day on the high bluff across the lake but all 6 to 9 inches long every cast that was 20 years ago its fun no doubt but i would rather be catching grenada fish just my :twocents and i bet money 2 years from now them 9 inch fish will have eyes as big as nickles im sure there are a few 12 to 14 inch fish but that is a 7 year old fish or older if you believe what the biologist say
