That sounds great to me Jerry, count me in. I love camping and fishing that time of year.
Where and When are we talking? School is rolling pretty hard that time of year, but I would love a weekend break.
Crappie Camp will be at Kirby Landing Recreation Area on Lake Greeson between Kirby and Daisy on Highway 70 about 45 miles southwest of Hot Springs from Thursday, October 26 through Tuesday, October 31st.
Hope to see you there!
Jiggen and I are locked, loaded, scheduled, reserved and ready!
See you there.
Titleman

Would be coming on I-40 to Arkadelphia, Hwy 8 to 84, pick up 70 at Kirby to the cg.

Hey guys,
Would you allow a neophyte Louisiana crappie fisherman to attend your Fall Crappie Camp? I love the Lake Greeson, Little Mo. area and would love to get some experience on fishing there.
Thanks,
Coolarry:cool:
Hey Coolarry:
Yes, you are very welcome to come to Crappie Camp. It's for anyone that is interested in crappie fishing no matter what their experience level.
Hope to see you there!
Thanks! I have reservations made and hope to be there.
Coolarry:cool:
I wanna be there, but I'll just be getting back from
Crappie Fishing & Camping Weekend Oct 13, 14 & 15 at LOZ
I may have to stay in a motel for a couple of nights, unless there is last minute cancelations at the camping area. I don't want to make reservations, cause I may be in a bind being gone up to LOZ for 7 days....
Oh well..... Just have to wait and see what happens at the last minute.
If nothing else I'll try to get a couple days fishing with y'all... ;)
I know it's gonna be fun....... :) :)
Randy
Hey Randy:
You won't need any reservations for a camping spot that time of year - there will be plenty available. We'll try to double up some too for those that are tenting since you can have an RV and a tent or two tents on each site.
I'll get with the Lady of the camper ;) :) and see if I can talk her into spending a couple nights on Lake Greeson with me.......Quote:

I'm not sure which side we'll be on yet but we'll probably decide a week or so in advance and we will have some signs up. The east side has water hookups at some of the sites but the west side has a little better bathrooms and showers.
just blew it up on a map. impressive looking lake.
Can boats be left in the water over night?
Do we have a head count of who's going to be there?
sinker making: bring your stuff and I'll bring mine.

You may also want a piece of carpet to protect the bow of your boat and to wipe your feet on to help keep your boat clean.
We don't have a head count but I expect 30 or more will show up sometime during Fall Crappie Camp.
The Fall Feeding Frenzy is on and crappie camp should be a good one.

Hope everyone that has the slightest opportunity comes out, if nothing else just to say "hey" and maybe eat some crappie with us.
Regarding the Fall Crappie Camp, should we contact Lake Greeson Park Services to reserve a campsite, or just show up?
I guess I should have read Page 2. I will try to do better.. :D
I checked the ReserveUSA site and if I understand it correctly reservations are not available for any of the campsites at Kirby Landing.Quote:

Wow I'd love to come out there...Dont have a boat yet, so I'll try to plan to come next year....
Don't let not having a boat stop you from coming. During the Spring Crappie Camp we had a few non-boaters and they had a great time and they were always invited to go with a boater. Right now I don't have every day booked during the camp, so I know there will be room in mine on some days. Just come and camp and have a great time.Quote:

You absolutely do not need a boat to come to Crappie Camp. In fact if you're thinking about buying and rigging a boat then you really should attend so you can see and even fish in a wide variety of boats and with different set-ups.
We'll find spots in boats for those that don't bring a boat with them. I'll be working some but I'll have some time to take folks out in mine and I can take 6 at a time!
Hey Jerry of Darryl are the shallow condos that you gave gps waypoints to this spring going to be good this fall, or is the lake too low.
Hey Jerry:Quote:

We'll get another list put together and post it again like we did last spring so everyone will have plenty of places to fish. We'll try to have that ready by the first part of next week. The fish are on the move right now and we're hoping they'll come a bit shallower and settle in before Crappie Camp. We're waiting as long as we can to compile the list so the waypoints we put together will all be productive.
Thanks Jerry, you really put out a lot of effort to make Crappie Camp successful, I really appreciate it. I wanted to get there for the beginning of camp, but we are having a shutdown next week so I probably will drive up early Saturday morning. I'll probably stay till Monday afternoon. Look forward to seeing everybody.
I'll probly drive up Saturday...And try to find a place to setup tent for a couple of days...
We can have one RV and one tent or two tents on each campsite so we can double up on campsites to save money. If folks will let us know they have room at their site for another tent we'll post a list for those coming in.
Hey Jerry or Darryl. Don't know if you have to start a new thread or not. But can we ask to who all is coming and maybe let us start gettin a game plan.
Looks right now as if I am out for Crappie Camp. I "might" get to run over Sunday - Tuesday, but I can't count on it for sure. Thanks to Mr. Jerry Blake for the GPS he provided me on my trip this past Sun - Tues. However, they didn't hold many fish. I figure the front moving through had alot to do with our success. I got camp set up Sun afternoon right in time for the bottom to fall out of the sky. It rained non-stop until Monday afternoon. HOWEVER, me and JohnR was on the water at 7 am. Dedication? I had rather call it ignorance :D I got to meet Mr. Blake (after they had boated 50 crappie of course). After running the water out of my boat on 4 different occasions, (no bildge pump) and JohnR falling into the lake (his rainsuit didn't work to well while swimming :D) we managed to rustle up enough crappie and bass for supper. We will definately attempt to conquer Lake Greeson at a later date for sure AFTER planning around the weather :p
Hey Allan:
It was great to meet you Sunday evening. Good to hear you survived all the rain. I was surprised that Greeson didn't come up a lot more than it did but I guess most of the rain soaked in.
I didn't fish Monday or Tuesday but I bet they were a bit slow after that front went through. I heard the bass turned on late yesterday afternoon.
I thought we might wear the crappie out today with another front approaching but they were pretty scattered. We had to move a lot and were lucky to catch more than a couple keepers on any one condo and got skunked on quite a few.
If this next cold front cools us down like it's expected to the crappie should be in the mood for some serious thumping when Crappie Camps starts in a week.
We’ll have a list of coordinates ready by this weekend that hopefully will hold fish through Crappie Camp. If conditions change we’ll post some coordinates during Crappie Camp as well. We’re hoping everyone can get a good mess of crappie while they are here.
Jerry,
First off, I appreciate all of your hard work in preparing such a big event. There are very few people who are as gracious as you and Darryl are when it comes to information. That says alot. We are in Arkadelphia so if I can get the wife away from Millwood for just one weekend :D we may make it down there. She likes to get on the water by sunup and leave after sundown so you may never see us though. 12 hours is about right for her. She won't even let me relax!!!!!!!!! Quote Why aren't you fishing, we came out here to fish? end quote (8 hours into trip). Take care!!!!!
Michael
I 100% agree with spikles2. Jerry and Darryl are extremely gracious to say the least. These guys make a living by catching crappie. They provided me with waypoints for this past weekend so I could have a better chance of catching fish....for FREE! I guess they could be considered "pushers" in a sense. Give you just enough to get you HOOKED for free! Surely worked for me. Already saving my money for a guided trip!
For me, Crappie Camp isn't about getting out there and learning all about where brushpiles are on Lake Greeson or even catching a boatload of crappie. It's about getting out there with a group of folks that love the sport just as much as you do. I've made a couple of good friends through this, and that means more to me than say catching a limit by my self out on Greeson every Saturday morning.
CEB,
WOW, quite a response. By information I mean how many campsites there are, where to get bait, how many people are coming pretty much getting everybody together in one place at one time and being cordial about doing it. That is not an easy task in itself. I have never had the privledge of meeting these men but they bend over backwards for ANYONE on this site and I respect that.
I echo your sediments exactly. I don't even have a depth finder on my boat so brushpiles or condos mean nothing to me. I am interested in the opportunity to meet people who have the same interests me and my wife have: that is fishing period. If I offended you I appologize.
Michael
