You need the 2.25" ball. The larger the ball the more gripping ability. The larger units such as the 998 and 1198 definitely need the larger ball. The price at Black Bear is the wholesale price. Dealers such as myself that do not stock these items or deal in them in bulk cannot compete. That is why I don't stock them.
I have the Ram 2-pivot swinging arm mount for my 898.
