Now we know why you didn't fish today. Looking good.
Have you got the frame pieces cut out yet?
Looking good.
Awesome!
Looks great but by now we expect nothing less from you.:cheers2
Are you using pegs or biscuits?
That's a start.
My stepdad started a ceder chest years ago. He didn't joint to boards, just glued and clamped them. After he died I got all the ceder and cherry lumber. My brother got down there and cleaned out the shop before I could get back. He burned all the black walnut, black oak, red oak, white oak and maple. There was 3 truck loads of lumber that came off of that 20 acres that I could have brought home.
Man thats bad news Cane, no tellin what that walnut was worth. I have a piece of walnut in my father in laws barn that is prolly 11 feet in length and about 12 by 12. I need to get it sawed and planed and use it for something. Also got a good pile of red oak up there. I really like working with the oak.
Got a question for G or any of you woodworking gurus, I just watched a video of a guy applying his poly with a lint free cloth, just dipped it in the poly and wiped it on real slow and it turned out nice. Have any of you ever used this method??????
Sammy...I buy the rub on poly by MinWax and I rub it on with a piece of old T shirt....It works great. Three coats let dry between each coat and hit it lightly with fine steel wool then tack off with a tack cloth and rub another coat on.
By the way WalMart carrys that rub on poly by MinWax....It comes in a quart....flat metal can. I really like the satin finsh
Thnx G sounds good think I am gonna try it on this top. Heading to lowes this afternoon, to check out stains and I will try and find it. If its MINWAX I know its a good product.
I like it because it is so easy and the rubbing application you can actually get thinner coats which in my opinion always makes for a better looking finish.
I always use MinWax products. The rub on poly is one of the finest finishes I've used.
Coming rite along. Putting the runners together with dowels and pocket hole screws G.

Cut a bead down the runners with the table saw G. Saw this done on a couple of em thought it looked nice. I had forgotten how much fun woodworking was G.

I think this is the right stuff G. Done some research on the Web you can mix 3 parts poly to 1 part mineral spirits and its the same thing.

Thats it Sammy.........Its good to use on gunstocks also
My son called earlier. He's looking for a spoke blade. You got a good idea of where to find one?
Are you talking about a spoke shave ?

That's it, it's taken shape.
Yes, a spoke shave.
Ran out of 3/8 dowels or I would have finished the top today also. I ll get some tomorrow and finish it. Wife picked a English Chestnut for the stain and I got the satin rub on poly as you guys suggested. She didnt want a lot of sheen to it.
Its gonna look great.......good job man. Cane you can get cheap spokeshaves at Harbor Freight or you can get the good ones from Rockler.com
HF?? That place takes a lot of my money. I'll be driving by there tomorrow on the way to see my doctor. I've got a few coupons too. Might as well cash them in.
I checked at HF today. They don't carry the spokeshave. The employees didn't know what I was talking about. It wasn't in the pc. I checked when I got home, that trip with not everything in stock cost me over 150. Rockler has 3, but only 1 in stock. Look online and see what else I could use before ordering.
I got mine at Harbor Freight but it was several years ago. It could be they call them something else. Most of the employees here are not to knowlegable about some of that stuff. Do a google search for spokeshaves and see what ya come up with.
I know about the knowledgable employees. I wanted a T post lift about a month ago, I called it a post jack. That took and hour to find.
