What's you limit?

Just for conversation, what's everyone's driving limit to fish a good lake? Hrs that is.

When I'm in the mood for an adventure I'd drive up 3 hrs. But that's an extreme. I can get to quite a few good places within an hour or so.

I drive upto 2hrs for a fishing trip anymore.... its a vacation.

My situation = 1hrs drive minimum to ANY reasonably good lake. 1.5 - 2 hours drive to most of the lakes I fish, with any regularity. My "limit" is 2hrs (one way) if I'm only fishing for the one day ... anything requiring over 3hrs drive, and that's a overnight stay at a minimum. The longest trip I've made, so far, has been a 8hr drive to Lake Marion, SC (40 some yrs ago) ... and in recent years, a 6hr drive to Weiss Lake, Ala., both of which were stays of over 2 days. In years past, a 5 hr drive to KY/Barkley meant a week long camping trip.

I think most people's "limit" (hours drive time) depends on their location, in respect to the "good" lakes within their range, for a one day trip. Few people will go to a lake that requires as much drive time (there & back) as they'll have fishing time .... at least for a one day trip. At least, for me, if I get in a hurry ... knowing it will take me as long to get to & from the lake, as I'll have time to fish ... I'm going to forget something, drive too fast, fish too fast, or just make poor judgement calls overall ... and that usually leads to a poor experience (at the least) or a disastrous outcome (at the worst).

You raise some good points CP when you get in a hurry you usually do forget something, I read an article one time about golf course membership, if you forgot your shoes after traveling half way there would go back and get them, if not they say its to far to join that club. The only thing I hate about driving 2 hrs or more is the drive back, if you catch plenty of fish it sure helps.

I have a lot a lakes within a 2 hr drive form the house. But I can be at martin in 30 minutes, and I don't have enough talent to do a lot of lake jumping like NM.....:Rofl

Well, I drive 2.5 hours to Buggs (one way) around 15 times a year so I guess that's mine.

I really only fish lake Anna at 1 1/2hrs. So that's it. but I will plan a trip where I spend the night.

That's about what it will take me to get to buggs, brand a half to Jordan and ten minutes to Belews, if it was only like either one.

i live on top of a mountain up in the mountains in banner elk nc. its a 1 hr drive to kerrscott. 1 hr to lake james. 2 1/2 hrs to high rock. 2 hrs to norman. 3 1/2 hrs to badin and 4 hrs to buggs. i fish them all . when i go i try to get as much info as i can on the lakes and make the choice. last month i decided to go to buggs, figured i,d rather drive a couple hours extra and fish a little less. turned out to be a good choice as we caught alot of good fish. best of all had good friends to share the ride so it didnt seem so long. i try to go for quality of the trip as much as quantity of fish caught. and i dont get disapointed as often. and a big thanks to the c.d.c. folks for water level and temp. reports. oh and for ramp info. it would be a long drive to find ramp closed.

Usually, 45 min is my normal drive. I can hit NW, West Neck and all the suffolk lakes in that amount of time. I pass up alot of SW fishing that is 5 minutes from my house, just to drive 45 min for some sweet-water.

If I'm invited I'll come. 4 hours to the NW River bash for me, been twice but missed last year. I'm 1-1/2 from Buggs, about 2 to Anna, 20 minutes to the James River, about 35 minutes to Briery or Sandy. I will drive about 4 hours max but like to make those long ones an overnighter. Farthest I've pulled my boat was to Athens GA, two day trip, caught a two pound crappie there too. My last long trip was to the Potomac River in August, about 3-1/2 hours from home, fished out of friends boat, we was snakehead hunting but those big green fish kept getting in the way. Will do it again. My favorite lake is only 20 minutes from my driveway. I would like to go after some of those bay stripers or the trout but need invite, will swap you a trip up here for some action down there.

Drove 10 hours to Lake Erie for two day trip in June, third trip there and not the last.Attachment 109057
