OK guys what can I do to keep my colorant from hard packing? Sometimes I don't get to play with my gear for a month and most all of the color has hard packed.

About the only thing I can think of is to be sure to MAKE time to shake it every couple of weeks even though you will not be using it. Putting a stainless steel 1/4" nut in each bottle will help agitate what you have.
Yep, put the nut in it and like CTom said, make sure it is stainless. Shake up the color for a good 2 minutes after it has sat a while and should be good to go.CF
Caney Creek's X2 colorant hard packs less than any I have tried.
A Couple of stainless ball bearings work too.
Thanks
i was told to put something in it but was never able to get the tops off mine. Some of mine wont even mix now. I was also told to heat it for a few seconds in the microwave. I guess I did one too long and ended up with a mess.
Some places sell those little 1 ounce bottles of color that have a small hole in the bottle cover [not to be confused with the cap]. The covers will come off if you work at it using a knife to lift from the edge. I won't buy colors in those bottles.
I don't think the microwave trick is such a good idea. If you add anything other than a nut or bearing to aid in loosening the colorant it might be a few drops of raw plastic or some softener. That comment on Caney's X2 colors is spot on. They don't pack and you use about 1/10 of what you'd use in conventional colors.
Just keep in mind Ship it has to be a stainless steel nut[s] or they wil rust and ruin the colorant. This shake trick works graeat and you can do it at night watch the tube so really it doesn't take any time away from anything else.
Heading to Lowes tomorrow to find the stainless steel ones. Thanks again.
1/4" nuts work great as do 5/16".
Anyone else have ccm X2 fl lime? Mine hard packs like crazy. Others X2 i have dont. But this one forms a hocky puck on the bottom.
I have quite a few X2 colors ut I don't seem to have any packing issues. The lime is one I don't have. Its been a a week or so since I've had the shop going due to the cold but I think I'll check all of my X2 to be sure its still loose and well mixed.
The lime may just be more Potent or something. Had to take a knife and chop up the hard packing. 3 days its back. Its the only X2 that does it that i have.
My x2 black and lime hardpacks. Do not think the nuts in x2 work very well its to thick to really break the color pigment loose.
Keep my colorants and superglue in a small refrigerator in my shop(not my house) have not had any problems!!!!
A friend told me to tape it to a tractor or something that shakes bad and when farmer comes home, it should be mix, don't know . Might would have work on my old truck LOL
