Carlyle Lake 40 minutes. Duck hunting has been phenomenal this year, crappie fishing is pretty darn good also!
Anywhere close to park a camper up there? I'll be working at Midamerica/Scott AFB and would like to find somewhere to park my camper somewhat close and live in it
Southern IL. Has it all...Rend ,Crab Orchard and Carlyle are full of crappie....You also have Horseshoe lake right up the road...good luck to you and welcome to the midwest.
Maybe they'll let you use the Famcamp at Scott if you're working there. Scott AFB FamCamp
There's a lot of crappie fishing in this part of the state. I figure we owe you a little return for our fishing at Grenada, Sardis, Enid, and others.
Glenn Shoals at Hillsboro and Lou Yeager at Litchfield can be good as well as Lake of Egypt (in the winter months). The Ohio river back waters out of Golconda are also good in cold months.
Kinkaid Lake (west of Murphysboro) can deliver some Mississippi-size fish from deep structure in mid-winter and mid-summer and a lot of eaters off the beds in the spring.
Good luck, stay safe, hope the job works out well for you.
thanks guys

there is some mighty nice ones down here in the delta! But our recruiter just called and the deal went south! They decided they only needed someone for an on call position. They had already offered me the position and everything. I was looking forward to a lil change of scenery for a lil while! Say you got any private land you need one of them monsters killed on? :yikes
heck I bet wilbur and his monkey would let you part in his yard:biggrin
Peabody river king in New Athens is an immediate nice change of scenery and only 20-30 mins away, nice selection of strip mine ponds with nice clear water and God knows how deep they go. I think some are hiding some serious pig sized bass but I have yet to prove that theory lol although I keep trying
