Took the batteries out n checked all the connectios the took the cover off the Terrova. Couldnt see any problems at all but the volts still drop from #6 to 5 volts. Trolling motor stipp wont ccome on. Ahhhhhh

I think you battery cables are corroded.....I bet if you skin some of the isulation off they will be green
The connectors looked good G but ill take a gander at em. I have 1 connection i havent checked n its a pain to get to. WAY up under the console
I am not talking about connections.....talking about the wire itself. But yeh.....check the connection under the dash. If your reading 36 volts at the batteries and not at the TM....its got to be either a bad connection or your wires have corroded up to have that much of a voltage drop. Did you disconnect at the TM to read your voltage there? if not something could be wrong with the TM

Its reading 36 unconnected n as soon as i connect the wires it drops to 5
I gave Brad Taylor 700 for it n it had some work already done on it. I had to spend $450 on it already. May just be a lemon. Only way i could afford one though was used. I do wish brad would get me that foot control. Been waiting for ober a year for him to get it to ne
Its between the batteries
Disconnect the wires at your TM and then check there....if you have good voltage there then something is wrong with the TM...If you still read a voltage drop.....its a problem with your wires or connections.
:hesaid
Wires are not connected to TM at all. I check them n i get 36. As im.holding the meter on the wires n tounh the tm wires to the ones from the battery then i get the drop
You have a wireing problem then.... either a poor connection or bad wires....exposure to salt air or salt water will do it....washing down the boat with bleach will do it ......your wires will corrode inside the insulation.....the wire turns green and will not conduct properly.
OK....you got me confused.....are you saying you have the TM disconected at the TM then read 36 volts and when you put the TM on it the voltage drops? if so then you have a TM problem......You have to measure your voltage at the furthest point away from your batteries....which would be at the TM with the TM disconnected....this is the only way to properly check to determine if its a wireing problem or a TM problem.
It is at the furthest point. I cut the wires from the batteries. Then when i check the end of the wires from the batteries it reads 36 volts. When im holding the leads on the wires to the battery n reading 36 volts n touch the wires from the TM to them it drops to about 5 volts. Plainest i can explain it
U think u got good connections but u ain't. To wires are corroded. Redo every connection u got the right way with corrosion inhibiter or imma call u ignernt.
Wannabe...
Ok....its going to be something wrong with the trolling motor then

Is the TM on when you test this? If so it could be in the motor. If not could be between the Bat leads and the TM leads, Does the prop turn okay? If you try to turn it with 1 finger it should turn freely but you should be able to feel the resistance of the brushes on the armature.
Wilbur, you just went WAY over his head with that question.
Not to Hijack ur thread but i got a question. How come when I start my boat it always freezes up my 997 at the console I have to unhook it and turn it back on and is turns off my 788 at the bow?
I tell you it is the switch . lol
It very well could be. The switch on a Terrova turns on when you deploy and turns off when you stow the motor. With it in the stowed position when he connects power and gets his voltage drop....switch could be bad and making a poor connection...or sending some current to ground and causing voltage drop.
if the motor ain't froze up i'm betting on the switch . lol
Sometimes water in the motor housing will cause it to have a voltage drop and not run also.
I am learning as i go . G just giving DD a hard time mostly . lol
Ok Donald ..... Start with the simple stuff. Fiberglass, take baby powder rub it on your arms heavily,it will keep the fiberglass from getting in your pours and minimize the itching Now. To your problem ... It is hard to diagnosis an issue so far away. Start the simple stuff. Corrosion etc. If that does not fix it, then you go back and start from the source.
Sometimes batteries will show a 12 v surface chrg and have a bad cell Put a load on it your voltage will drop out.
I would suggest you take all 3 batteries out of the boat and take them to auto zone, napa or whoever and have them load test them. That's where I would would start.... Let me know how it goes..........your friend in CUP........
I hear ya bud....well DD ought to know...your not supposed to run a fresh water TM in salt water. He Needs a RipTide Terrova ( the white one) ....they have different seals etc.
Just now catching up!!!
I had the same problem. On the console I just wired to a light on the console. I ran directly to bat and problem solved. On the bow I just used the 2 wires that were there, assuming they were for a DF. I ran a 12ga. extension cord up front direct from Bat and problem solved. I would say bad wiring or bad Battery
Sat. Ima scare ya. I know exaxtly what hes talking about n i checked that. When i put it in saktwater.i washed it at a carwash for about 10 minutes. I hose it down real well n even fill the inner hull with water to clean it thouroughly. Ive checked every wire that has to do with the batteties n found no problems. It was working fine.n batteries were holding up great a month ago when i was fishing n it just cut off.
You can wash all you want too....you will never get all the salt out.
Is your motor hard to remove? If not take it off and hook it to someone else's, if it works rewire

Or just move all your batteries to the front deck and make up a short connection directly to the trolling motor. Somebody close please go help him!

Call EZ he can figure it all out
Yep I vote bribe EZ to come help . I got blackmail pictures . LOL
Ok Don, I'm going to try this. If you have 3 fully charged batteries and you have something that would drop it to 5 or 6 volts with good wiring connections and wire something would be getting really hot or your circuit breaker would trip. Your reading 36 with your meter but you have some wiring that has broken down somewhere in your run. It dosnt take but a couple of wires to be making connection for you to get reading with meter because it requires so little amperage to make the meter work, as soon as you have any real draw its going to drop off. Like Rip said un hook motor wiring and wire it straight to batteries.
Just thought of something else. Disconnect your breaker and wire direct to battery and try it. Your breaker could be corroded internally..
Breaker? This is DD.you talking to. Staight wiring is all i got
Don said he has it wired direct.....no circuit breaker.....he needs to rewire with new wire and install a breaker at the batteries
