Found an extra fish yesterday that I caught Tuesday in one of my livewells--needless to say it was pretty nasty--thought is was rducks at first:)
would regular dish soap and water do the trick--I don't want any residue that will kill fish the next time I use em.

Make a paste out of baking soda and water....scrub the live well down with this and then rinse thoroughly
Water and clorox. Long as you rinse it well the bleach won't hurt your fish. I clean my minnow vats about once a month with bleach and water and the minnows appreciate it.
Rather than bleach, I'd use simple green, brush and rinse well. I'd be worried about bleach on the livewell fittings, lines an pumps.

If it is just the smell, take about 1/2 dozen charcoal brickets and put them in the live well and close it up for about 3 or 4 days. Haven't done it on a live well, but it works amazingly well on coolers.
+1 on clorox. Fill your tank n add a quart of clorox let ot sit over night then rinse several times. Ats the only way to clean a fishy cooler n will work on livewell to
I use a product called Wesley's Bleach White to clean my coolers and my fish cleaning station, as well as my livewells. It has the correct mixture of bleach to clean and disinfect without being too harsh, comes in a handy spray bottle and can be found at most auto part stores and big box stores. Chlorine dissapates with time and contact with bacteria, so i do not think you should be worried about hurting your next livewell full of feesh.

1 cup of bleach fill with water let sit overnight. Then like Feelay said rinse good with fresh water. Always works for me and never bothered the fish none. Like Feelay I clean minnow tank and coolers same way.

Last time that happened to me...me and a buddy kept commenting on how many dead fish must be on the bank. Eventually we realized that no matter where we went there were dead fish on those banks too. That's when we opened the live well...awful!!!
I can say it is nasty.
gota admit, it was pretty rank when the wind was blowing from the livewell towards us this morning, Yoda, next time, please walk around in the livewell and check the corners fo fish.

I had one in mine once. When I found it I also then had to clean out the puke. Course when I was young I would puke if I thought about it. I know you guys probably don't get scum lines on your boats in those lakes. We get them every time we go in the Atchafalaya Basin. That Simple Green will clean the scum off easily. Just spray on and wipe. Mike I would do the bleach thing, the baking soda thing and the simple green. If that don't work hug a skunk and you won't smell the boat!!:yikes
Livewell is deep and goes back under the deck pretty good so without standing on the seat he most likely couldn't see over in there. Fish was over 12 by at least a 1/4, possum cops all over the place at Enid so if they look close they get checked.Quote:

Just like bleach, you have to cut it. I use 5 parts water to 1 part.
Simple green is good. However if you ever need somethin to remove grease or something that is stuck on go get yourself some Purple Power. Now that stuff kicks it and makes it move.Quote:
