I'm refinishing mine and not sure what to finish it with. I'm sanding it down, then gonna stain it. Does it need a poly coat? If so, water or oil based? I don;t want to have to lightly sand between coats if I have to use more than one coat

does it need a poly coat after I stain it? I'm sanding down to bare wood
DD, i would , it will help keep down on wear spots that will cause to color to become uneven
this sounds scary already. good luck dude..........
Cover with composit and fer get it,bout maint free.
DD the final coat or sealer depends on what ya want. If ya want a shine to em use high gloss poly. If ya dont use a satin or low gloss. Now if you want them to be real nice sand em, then stain em, then sand em with real fine like 280 or higher and one more coat of poly. Now if ya want the easy way out sand em then stain em then wipe em down really good with a damp mop then put Spar on them. Spar is a marine poly that is very very durable. Got any questions just gimme a call. I will pm ya my number.
one call that's all
Thanks. Trying to get her ready to sell so i wanna go the easy route. Lol it was $145 for the sander n all the sandpaper. Now just got to stain n clear coat. We have a big party next weekend so im only going to stain it this sunday then wait til after the party to clear coat it so its not all scuffed.up. that wont hurt anything doing that will it?
I would finish it before the party DD.
No it will be fine for that just before you put the clear on it be sure to clean it with a lint free mop or cloth let dry then put the Spar on it. Think for what your talking bout doin I would go with the Spar. Just tell em at the building supply or home store that name and they should know what ya talkin bout.
OH and BTW when you putting the Spar or poly on it be sure and have the room welllllll ventilated or you might be havin some flashbacks from ya college years lol
Lol. Kinda like dronking shroom tea? Lol
