Possibly bitten by a bird or other predator at some point.
Prop
I've seen that quite a few times in some of the lakes I fish. I too think that is an injury from a prop.
And to think he made it through a prop attack and what finally got him was a lil ole jig. Poor lil feller
pulled off my hook when I was using him for bass bait.
Could be a lot of different things happened, turtle bite, bird strike, prop attack, or a cat fisherman that is willing to take the risk of using illegal bait and it just happened to get off of the hook. If I was a betting person I would bet it was on a trotline, jug line, or limbline at some point.
did you barrow slabbandits single shot camera ???????????????? lol
Something happened to this Nimrod fish while I was bringing him up. Pole loaded up like moby dick was hooked then it came free. Gar??? It was still bleeding.

Its that Bald Eagle
We do have lots of predators here on Nimrod Lake. I figured a Water Turkey (Cormerant) or Great Blue Heron hurt that fish when it was small. Not unusual to see Crappie with fresh wounds but figure some are Gar bites.
Rcc can't blame that Gar cause i like a piece of tail every now and again lmao
I would have to agree with nimrod on this one. Also would like to agree with abh finally too. Billy's post reminded me but someone on here said bald eagles taste like chicken? I just cant remember who......lol
You are probably right Nimrod, I've seen fresh and old scars like that on crappie in a reservoir that gets hit hard by water turkeys.
I used to do research on water turkeys. They are some mean birds and have an extremely sharp beak, no problem taking a chunk out of a fish or your hand.
