Double rigs
Out of curiosity I see a lot of people using double minner rigs. What is the purpose. It seems like the one time I saw billy e fish he would catch only one at a time and lose minner on other hook due to shake off a lot. Why not use one hook and minner. My one jig kept up with his two minners.
-
Well it would seem to increase your chances of catching fish. I tried it and had the same experience of catching one and shaking the other minnow off so I went to a minnow and jig combo if I use a double rig.The bite seems to vary back and forth, one on the jig and then one on the minnow regardlless of which is on top or bottom. And yes if I got one on the jig he ususally shook the minnow off. The most frequent doubles I get is when I get into a school of white perch.

i have caught several dbl.'s with the dbl rig also when you start you can use more colors to help with pattern also on depth !!!! at the fall camp in two days i caught 10 dbls !!! and ea time one was the momma and her baby !!!!!!!!!! i caught two at washington back in the spring both was over 2 . so i will keep using my rig!!

Congrats on the doubles I never saw it doubles when billy and I fished together.
-
I would have to agree that the double rig sure helps me pattern the color and depth faster. I had meatgetter send me my last minner critter order all with double barb aberdeen hooks in stead of sickle style and noticed hardly any minnows getting lost after catching a fish on other hook. Each to there own but i use minnows and always have plenty in boat so if i loose one i just replace an keep on fishing.

[QUOTE=arkansasbowhunter;2046838]Why not use one hook and minner.
Billy, sounds like you made a beliver out JW.
-
I don't think so harold he had 8 hooks in water and I had 4 and i caught just as many fish as he did. 8 to 4 isn't a fair playing field lol but I would say we were equal in catch.
-
that not the story i got !!!!!!!!!!!!!lol
-
That's why it was a story pffft I did run him into a brush pile to make him lose some of them double rigs lol.
-
I love it I think more baits (whatever kind jigs or minners) better the chanches of catching. Just my opinion I could be wrong. But I bet you could take that to Veges your money should be on the doubles. LOL!!!!!! :dono

Who needs doubles on Lake Nimrod?:bash:crazy::twocents:popcorn

Evidently some folks do :-)

OK everybody take it easy on ABH. He knows I am a minnow user 1 hook or 2 at times it makes a difference finding fish in the water column. And if more people had his jig pushin skill, less minnows would be sold. I feel there are times in the year and different lakes that minnows will out fish jigs. In the fall I feel that minnows are the bait of choice. If you want to keep your line in the water use jigs. They are a lot easier to fish. If I were to put a time clock on me for minnows vs jigs it would be about even. Nimrod is a bad lake to do the test. I think you could take a limit Hoggin a brush pile there.ABH has fine tuned his skill to the point that he thinks there has to be another way. There is another 100 ways. If I can ever get back in my MSriver oxbows 9 times out of 10 I push jigs or single pole. If I fish the big 4 in MS 10 times out of 10 I will push minnows. As far as running up in a brush pile it dont matter if you have a jig or minnow, you are in trouble. Thanks again ABH and keep up all the research.

I'm guessing that this is part of the reason:)

Hey billy enjoyed the trip with ya and learned some stuff watching you kill those minners lol. I am constantly looking to improve what I know and how I fish. By fishing with more folks we can all learn. I can't wait to fish some of those lakes with ya and put the jigs back to the test. My luck on Washington wasn't due to jigs but inadequate knowledge of the lake and where the fish were at the times I fished em. I just need some jigs made now.

I am sure some jigs are on the way. Time for a bigger tackle box. Hey Handi dont post those pics. That never happens. HAHA

ABH you can push 2 jigs just like you billy was pushing 2 minners.
-
Creek way to put him to sleep! Now thats funny right there. Kenyan thats a sweet picture dealing with all this karma?
-
I know but when u fish like I do you are asking for more trouble and I find I just don't need two on the line!!!
-
jw, most of us are not as good as you , we need all the advantage we can get . one day maybe i can get were i don't need but one hook on a line but until then it' two hook's and MINNERS for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Considering ABH likes to push jigs .5 or higher for the most part I think his one jig method probably suits him the best. However, if he ever converts over to the slow trolling world I believe he should definately use two. I'm not sure how much it increases my catch rate but I would say on average somewhere between 15-30% depending on the day.

I wish I could troll slower like you farts but I guess I just don't have the patience. Maybe one day when I get older like Jerry i will slow down :-)
