Least I did hit a few Doves

Went Sunday for the first time in 25 or so years up at a buds Dove camp just South of Isola. not much happening Sunday mornin. Got 1 after shootin at about 8-10. That afternoon we moved to a sunflower field that abuts some fresh cut beans. They were' flyin pretty good. I picked up 3 birds on my first 7 shots and then it took another whole box of shells to get the 4th one. LOL Did end the day right though. Had a double, 2 birds on 2 shots and then a real long shot for my last bird. Think there were 5 folks in the field and we all got our limit!!!! My bud even gave me his birds so I came home with 30. time to make some gravy and home made biscuits!!!

Those are probably the "homeys", too. I don't see any of the immigrants around my fields, yet. My birds are almost tame. You gotta throw dirt clods at'em to make'em get up and fly.

They sure are good, hope to get in on another hunt or too. Way to go DD, takes a little bit to get back in the swing sometimes.

Nice job cuz. Nothing better than some bacon wrapped doves on the grill. Marinade them in Italian dressing in a zip lock before you grill them. Yum

Ima get back up there in December to hit it the last season. Just won;t have time to go again til then. Ima filet em, fry them abit and make some gravy and biscuits with a few. Sho will do the bacon wrapped on the grill. yummmmm Wills, We didn't have a single ringneck, all morninng doves. Only ringnecks we saw were around folks houses. We did have 30-40 on top of us a few times from all directions

We went Saturday a week ago to a wma over in Alabama and had a fine afternoon shoot. I hit my limit, my oldest had 14 and my youngest had 9. We had a blast and surprisingly it was not crowded at all for a public shoot. We haven't shot our field yet, so we should have a decent shoot on it one afternoon.

Not bad minner. I think this place being a plantation has about 4000 acres so they have lots of fields. Dinner Saturdya night was awesome. 1 1/2 inch ribeyes, baked taters, corn and I made 4 gallons of Jambalaya to take

Last time I went, I killed 15 doves with 18 shots. Lost 3 good arrows that day!!

Dove camp? I've heard of deer camps, duck camps and crappie camps but never a dove camp. Sounds like you had a great time.

I ain;t heard of one before either Feelay but they sho got one. 2 old houses. One has a huge living room and 60 inch TV, then the kitchen and a couple bedrooms. The other is a huge room with bunk beds. We watched the SLAUGHTER that TSUN had put on em Saturday night while we was eatin those 1 1/2 inch thick ribeyes, baked taters, jambalaya and sausage. They have about 35 or so members in the club if I remember right

DD, how is your shoulder today??

not sore at all. I was shooting light loads. 3 drams of powder and 1 1/8 lead is all. Had to keep my shots close which was easy. most shots were less than 40 yards

Just exactly how do you fillet a Dove.

that's simple, with a feelay knife, come on yank.

I used to chunk ball bearings at em and kill em but had to stop that, was messin em up too d--n bad!!!!!!:biggrin

Simple. Just cut each side of the breast off. Couple bites each.

Fry'n those feeleyed breast and then smutherd in gravy with cat head biscuits is the best, of course the bacon wrapped grilled are good appetizers while waitn on the fried ones too. That camp sounds like a good time for sure.

DD, if its the same one I am thinking of it really aint that bad. Preparing a dove hunt is an exspensive thing, good hunts are hard to come by sometimes but sounds like they have it figured out. Good luck.

Rees, they really don;t have to do much. The land owner farms beans, cotton and corn. no need to prep fields at all/ Doves are thick up in the Delta
