Only advice i can give you is lanier has alot of deep docks and the fish are under them. Even if you do not know how to shoot under a low to the water dock its not that big of a deal there.
those big community docks provide alot of shade, just fish the empty slips(you can just cast into them).
Use 4lb. Test and tie on 1/24 jiffy jigs. Bring variety of colors to see what they prefer. (White with red head would be a good start). Cast it or shoot it as far back as possible, allow the jig to just free fall and pendulum back towards the boat. Watch the line for the slightest twitch and set the hook! Try different retrieves sometimes slowly reeling it works good. Hope this helps.
Docks are a sure fire key on Lanier but be prepared to search around. There are over 1 billion docks. You can do night fishing under some of the bridges also. I would focus up river as the water holds more stain (but can still be clearer than most are use to). I took some time off this summer and now I am still searchind to find them. If you like to troll Allatoona is a good option too. Another good place to look is hit up the brush piles that you fished looking for bass. A lot of them will hold crappie also. Put your boat is 20-30 ft of water and cruise the contour around points and humps. The brush will show up. More brush than docks lol.
:welcome Welcome aboard...Lots of good fishing at Lanier and many of the guys on here fish there regularly. Most anyone on here will be glad to help you out... I can't help you much, I usually fish Blackshear or Talquin...Holler if you get down this way..Good Luck and keep us posted on how you do.
Thanks so much for these tips. Ill give them a try this weekend.
I agree about docks on Lanier and also about going up the river, but would add vertical fishing brush piles. Use electronics to find the isolated brush. You may have some in mind that you have bass fished. These piles will hold your larger slabs. Keep a close eye on electronics when dock shooting as many docks have brush around them. A dock may cast shade over a large brush pile that has more algea and plankton and the fish may be there instead of under the dock. Just be open minded and pick apart your area. I have also did well longlining and pushing on Lanier. Good luck and post pics of results we love pictures.
stj2012.............I can't help you with Lanier, but welcome to the site.
where do you find jiffy jigs
Wahoo Bait and Tackle carries Jiffy Jigs.
up river is always a good choice but don't disreguard the creeks on the south end of the lake. They don't get fished near as hard{for ********* but the water is also much clearer than the north end. Find docks with brush around them this time of year and they will be shallower in the water colum than docks without brush. Look for docks in the 15 to 30 foot range however the fish may be only in 8 to 10 feet down. You will have no problems finding docks to fish on lanier. Just look for the brush around them.
Like everybody said docks are good also look for lights near the water and some will have some limbs hanging out from beaver brush allways good places. There are not many on lanier but I find the older covered docks are good ones. I use 1/32 jighead and red/chart. Bass Pro Squirmin Squirts work well .The weather is great this time of the year good luck and welcome to Crappie.Com, lots of good people who don't mind helping out with info.
