Astro Update

Merc ran fair, been sitting up and needs to be run some but the main lake werent fit to go out on yesterday. What is the stuff you put in the gas to help clean the carbs????
Other than the transducer failing the boat fished well, sits in the water alot better than the Glasstream did. With both Tam and I on the front deck the waves wouldnt try to come over the front and we got into some pretty goods waves a couple of times, the Glasstream would have sunk with 2 folks on the front deck so that part is much better.
Hope to get it out this weekend and run it some more and see what else needs tweeking. Looking forward to alot of good days in this ride.

Is there anywhere close to Grenada to get an adaptor for the 101 to make the ducer on it work with a 700 series Humminbird????:dono

You can get SeaFoam at WalMart....Its in the automotive section. They also have Deep Creep which is SeaFoam in a spray can that you can spray your carbs with.

I have never had to use any so had no idea, thanks guys. Hope I dont have to tear em down but if I do its not too bad. Didnt get to pull but maybe an hour and half but the meter on the 101 was still on 100 percent. Not sure what that worth tho, the one on my 55 PD would show 75% as soon as you ran it any.
As far as the weight in the back that I got pounded about the boat handled real well, not gonna be a prob at all.:biggrin

I ran my 80lb at 1.7 for 8 straight hours, and at the ramp the meter read 50%. I wuz very impressed with those cart battery's.

John, try The Sportsmans Guide thats the place some guys were buying cheap reels last year. They had the best price I could find anywhere on that adapter cable. BPS or Acadamey in Jackson might have. Good to hear boat did good for you.

If your motor sat up for a while, it would be smart to tear down and clean the carbs. Granted, it's probably six for that motor, so it's going to be a hassle. But the reality is this- if you have a needle stick closed on a two stroke motor, you have a good chance of dropping a cylinder. On an engine that age, there's no sense in rebuilding it and it becomes junk. It's cheap insurance and if you run your rig as much as it sounds, this may be the only rebuild you'll need to do for several years. I would hate to know that you did all of this work only to burn up a cylinder.

Thats an excellent point, will tear em down. They arent that bad and not a hole lot to em and I would deffinately hate to screw it up. It's old but very low hours since overhauled and then put up.

My 3 cyl. 59 ci Merc has a mysterious knock/rattle at mid throttle. The smart money says it's a clogged jet. I'm not too keen on running it too much until the carbs come off and get a good cleaning.

Here's a suggestion that will help a LOT- change whatever fuel lines and filters BEFORE you clean your carbs. Get all of that right, because when you start knocking that stuff around, you're bound to get some of that in your jets.

Everything under the cover is just over a year old and the GOOD stuff. Will look at it all good but it is all that ethanol resistant hoses. Bet it is ten of them little suckers under there. Had to tear em down in Texas cause I had a hole in a float, they werent bad to do just takes a little time. Will most likely do that tomorrow middle of the day under a shade tree. Where I am going wont be a have to to fire it off in the morning, just deploy the 101 and start fishing.
By the way, if some of yall are still using PD trollers the deploy on the Terrovas is awesome. My 55 PD with Co-pilot will be for sale.
