Can you totally wipe out a Navionics Card? I have the South edition and it will not not work on either my 798 or 1198. It's like it's not there, please help. I'd hate to have to spend another $100 for a new one.

Yes you can. These mapping cards are on flash memory devices which, like any other electronic device, can fail for a number of reasons. Be sure that it is your mapping card that is bad by borrowing another map card from someone else and testing it in your 798 or 1198 unit.
Thanks Greg, I appreciate it.
I was told that you DO NOT want to insert them into your home computer. That would wipe 'em clean. Well, I didnt try it so I dont know...was just what he said.
It would be a wierd coincidence for both units to have the same issue...but you can try this...
Take the card out of the unit...
Power on unit...
Hit "Menu" twice to get into the main menu system..
Tab over to the "Chart" tab...
Cursor down to "Chart Select"..
Set to "Auto"...
Exit out of menu system..
Insert card...(in both/either card slots)...
Is there a popup at the top of the screen that says "Loading Maps"...??
If not...
Go thru the same steps but when you get to the "Chart Select" setting...
Choose "Left Card Slot"...
Exit out of menu system...
Insert card....(in the left card slot)
Is there a popup at the top of the screen that says "Loading Maps"...??
If not...
You can try these same steps in your other unit...
If still no luck... I'd say your card is toast...

How old are your chips? I wonder if they could be updated thru the Freshest Data program? Contact Navionics

You would need the Navionics pc program that reads the mapping card to plan things on a pc...Windows or Mac does not have a program that reads the format of a Navionics card....
You can also put the card in your HB unit, force the unit into "Simulation" mode, and mark waypoints and plan trips right on the unit itself...
I've spent a lot of time studying contours and humps and such...(sitting in the boat in the garage and sitting in the house with my unit hooked to AC power).. Then mark waypoints right on the map to be investigated when I get back onto the water...

Rickie why does navionics tell me to insert my card into my pc or card reader .I insert it and it tells me there are updates and I download them.I have played around with it on my PC and made waypoints but Ive not seen them on my HB788ci but they are saved in a file on my pc ,Do I need to insert a blank card and save it ,then put it in my fishfinder ,Im confused
Ok.. First please realize I do not use the Navionics Navplanner pc app .. So any info I give about Navionics will be from what I can research and read myself...(anyone please feel free to jump in if I make an incorrect statement)...
Here is a FAQ from the Navionics website... (From the information it seems the Navplanner pc app has to be installed on the pc before the Navionics card can be manipulated on the pc)...
NAVIONICS: The Leader in Electronic Charts
About half way down in the FAQ... See this question and answer:
Q. Can I upload routes and markers created with my Navionics PC App to my plotter?
A. Yes. Look for the "Export/Import data to and from plotter" feature in Settings.
Q. How do I transfer my routes and markers to my plotter?
Follow these simple steps to export Markers and Routes to your plotter: 1) Insert your plotter CF/SD memory card or a virgin memory card in the card reader; 2) Select the option
Gotta_fish...Does this answer your question..??

Yes Rickie,Yall always answer my question lol , but I still dont know how to make it show up on my FF ,I can make it show up on my pc but its never on my FF,How about next time your off work come by the house and show me JK...I'll keep messing with it and see what happens and let ya know .I appreciated all the help I get from you guys THANKS !
Look for an “Export” or “Save As” function (I don’t have the Navionics software either but know that it can be done as others have done so). Ideally you want to save or export them in the GPX file format. You can than open the GPX file in HumminbirdPC and upload the waypoints to an SD memory card. Once on the memory card you can power on your 788ci unit and install the memory card – the unit should automatically load the waypoints.
