Escaped convict gill? Umpire gill? Zebra gill? :dono
gill & yellow perch?
Dinner!!!!!!!!
purdy fish!
All I can say is bars on fish is pretty. After you scratch the scales off of it, it s pretty and golden brown and ready to eat. This has got to be a cross. Somebody quess. It is not like the bluegills we catch in LA.
LOL @ Scoot!
Wow...saltwater sheepshead gill;);)
As long as they eat good!:biggrin
pretty gill, the variations of fish colors from different bodies of water and parts of the country amaze me.
Gills are supposed to have bars like that. I have never seen any that visible but they are supposed to be there. I think its a regular gill. It may be the perfect water to bring out the color of the fish. Can you post some pics of other types fish from the lake? If they look diff then yoh know its just the water thats making the color come out so good. Very cool though, i would agree with the hybrid theory but those bars are supposed to be there, they just pop out more. I dont know of any other type fish a gill can cross bred with to make them look like that. I know yellow perch have black bars as well but im pretty sure they cannot cross with gills. I would like to know what your local freshwater biologist thinks. Awesome gill, mounting material for sure.
Thanks for all the replies....I agree with you Young Gun. Pretty sure it's a pure bluegill. Guessin it may be a particular strain tho. Have not talked to any DNR people or biologists either. Here are a few more pics from same body of water.
Very pretty gill, the water must be fairly clear?
More stained than clear....
Isn't that a Coppernose gill? I get around here that pretty close to that.
No thats not a coppernose. A coppernose has a copper spot on thier head. Here is a pic of a few that i caughtAttachment 99437
Those are beautiful gills. We run into those striped ones from time to time and I often wonder what's up with that. Thanks for sharing a great photo.
