Problem with Boat

Hoping someone out here can help, was on Truman yesterday ( Friday ) went up to u from Bucksaw, running about 30 mph, got to where the river makes a right turn and a buzzer went off, wasn't sure what it was ( either water pump or oil ) stopped motor immediately, checked oil res it seemed low, started back up no beep. Figured I was low on oil and went back to Bucksaw and bought a gallon of oil, turns out I had half of a container already, so I poured the gallon in anyway, now it's full..Went back towards u and at the same place buzzer went off again...watched motor when I was going and water pump was putting out a good stream. I shut it down again and wasn't sure what I should do, so I decided to head for u, never heard another sound till coming back and about the same spot it did it again. Stopped motor, waited a minute or two started up again and went to cedar creek and fished, that was the end of the noise for the rest of the day.. Anyone have any Idea's.:dono

Bad low oil sensor???? If it happens in a turn, that would be my guess.

When you filled the oil reservoir did you also fill the one in the engine? If you ever run out in the reservoir, you also have to fill the one under he engine cover because it will take it a long time to fill itself. Guess how I know that? :)

Never run out of oil that I know, oil container was half full when I checked, I'll check the sensor once I find out where it is. I'm thinking it's probably a sensor of some sort going bad ( at least I hope that's all ) read where they call it a motion sensor also where it could be a faulty Ignition/coil, or a Fuel pump Diaphram. Seems it could be a lot of things, guess I'm going to have to put a tester on them all. Buying shop manual will be first step...

Sounds like a low oil alarm to me. Check the reservoir under you engine cover and make sure it is full before you spend a lot of money on other things. Also, your lower reservoir must seal up and the pick up hose must not have holes above the oil level.

Oil reservoir on top of motor full. But found hose with split, was just bairly on, will replace. Also go to library and find out what it goes too.

It will eventually fill by itself when the lower reservoir is full. It just takes some time. If you go out again and it doesn't alarm, I would guess that is it. I'm no expert but that's what happened to me.

Hopefully that crack in line will take care of it Mongo.

Brother-in-law had the exact same issue a couple years ago with his boat, it was a cracked oil line. Should be a good fix, hopefully.

Had same problem with Merc 175 EFI on my Express. Would run ok, then give alarm. Shut it down, scratch my butt and wonder what was up. Start up and everything OK-great pea stream. Get her up on plane and head down the lake and alarm again. Got Mercury book out of console and sat on lake and read book. It gives a different alarm for different problem. High temp, replaced water pump impeller and all ok. Would run ok till bout 3000 rpm with great pea stream, but over 3000 rpm overtemp. I change impeller every three years. If oil line doesn't fix problem and your impeller is over 3 years old, might check on a new one.

I do change the impeller every three years too.

Changed Impeller last year, changed hose Sunday, I believe it's a vacuum hose, haven't seen a book on it yet and haven't got it out to try. I'll let you know when I do. Appreciate all the comments

Had a similar experience with batteries last week. Car battery went out in the Walmart parking lot and the Gator battery when I got home. Fortunately the Walmart batter was still under warranty. Got a new one for free. If anyone tells you there is no inflation, the old battery was $69 the new one $99.

Starter on boat went out, lost transmission on tow vehicle and then battery died on the wife's car. What's next?
