3 LB Crappie club
No i'm not "yet" a member :biggrin but I have a buddy that told me when he catches one it's going on the wall.
I believe a duplicate can be made from a photo...nevertheless my comment is if has a mounted crappie 3lbs+ (real or fake)
Would you mind posting a photo I would really like to see how it turned out.
Thanks in advance

Here is mine.
Here is my replica of my 3 lb 2oz crappie that I caught last year. I'm sure one can be made from a picture but length and girth information helps.

Roy, did you lose your hat? I have some pictures of a few but I put them back, wife says I am crazy, no arguement ,LOL. She caught a 2 and 3/4 lb that I talk her into putting back after she went to Bobcats and weigh it,she didn't want to put it back, but I told her it was too big to eat and too little to mount, LOL. wasn;t I slick, hope she do not read this

Man that was a disappointment mike, thought you got a slab lol, nice fish Roy. Ive got five over 2lbs only released two....the others were tasty lol.

2.5 is the closest I've come to joining the club.

I'm pushing 70 real hard and have only caught one that went 3lb 5oz in all that time. I'm not into mounts and since it died by time I got it to legal scales, it got et. And I agree, smaller ones are better eatin.

Here is one from Arkabutla that went 3#6oz

Here is mine, 3 pounds, 6 oz. caught at Santee in 1988. Mounted by Hugh Crittenden, Still looks like it just jumped out of the water. I smile every time I look at at it. If I caught another it would be released. I went with the fish biologist and game wardens on the shock boat once and held a 20 inch, four pound plus crappie in my hands. It was released and I've fished that hole many times to no avail.

I got my replica from Bubba Denton at Fish Art Taxidermy, a local well know guy here in VA who does only fish and has been doing them a long time. He is a super nice guy who really pays attention to the small details. I think my fish actually looks better than the picture shows. I provided Bubba with a picture of my fish as well as it's length and girth and we discussed everything else I wanted or did not want to see on the fish. He was able to deliver my fish in 6 weeks which I think is great, he said he could do a skin mount in about the same time as well. I highly recommend his work. His number is 1-804-262-1153. Give him a call, you won't be disappointed.

I would stick with the no hat look. It suites you better.

Roy that is one great looking reproduction, looks better than most mounts. My wife caught a citation crappie some years back that I had mounted and I had to hang it in a different room than my fish, the guy did a greenie for me that looks great but he sure messed up her crappie. I took it back once and he did some reshaping but it still looked bad, looked nothing like the fish she caught. Each taxidermist is an artist but he will give you his rendition of what he thinks the fish should look like. Shop around and ask to see mounts of the same kind of fish you want mounted and look for some old mounts that have been done awhile. Lowest price will most likely be lower quality than more expensive ones. I wanted a repro of my first musky and found several beautiful ones out in the midwest but I really don't want to spend 6-700 bucks for a wall decoration, I'd rather spend it going fishing. The picture looks great.

Greg,
Your right most times in life you get what you pay for. That sure is a beautiful picture of you and your musky. $700 is allot for a wall decoration when you have such a nice photo.
Tap,
I'm getting a new hat soon! Of course it will look almost the same as the last one. Let me know if you want me to order you one as well. :)

Kevin, looking to see pictures of those 2 great fish! How much did each of them weigh? Man that black fish looks huge.
-
Roy, my fish was 3.4 and my dads was 3. both were picked off the same tree but 6 hours apart . didn't have a scale so we used a scale at the marina hope it was accurate .I'm going Sunday hope the rain turns them on .

Those are some very nice fish and mounts. If I ever break the 17" or 3 lb mark ill have to have one done
-
All of those seem to have come out really better than I expected, Like MM was saying I have seen some that didn't look too great over the years... I guess it's best to shop around.
Nice Cave G.T.N. thats cool the way you have the fish set up on the wall.
For now I'll keep working on getting em in the boat
