Great job Greg. How deep? How fast? Minners?
Slow pushing minners 8-10 feet deep 10- 15 fow
I think I saw ya'll out there. You in a War Eagle with a Yamaha? I was in an Excel with a Yamaha.
Yep that was us , seen you wrestling mr wiskers as we came by, how did you do?
Not nearly as good as the last two weekends. I couldn't seem to figure them out. Pesky catfish wouldn't leave me alone.
we will figure them out monday !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just ask and you shall receive!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice mess Greg, I'm bringing my 5 year Old Grand son to Nimrod Tues... he is very excited to reduce Nimrods population also. Iv'e been telling him since he was three when your five years old Gramp PA will take you out to do some serious fishing. He called me up yesterday and said PAPA I'm five years old and im ready to do some serious fishing. LOL
Good catch but it was extremely slow today. They were not on where we caught them a couple days ago. Caught limits but size was off. Everyone we saw was say'n fishing was off. Never saw so many trawlers out on the river banks.Guess we should have went down lake to Carden Point today.
Fancy Seats, I was out there too. I think I idled right past you and mentioned to my buddy "that looks like a Excel Viper". We were in a camo Xpress with a 70hp Yamaha four stroke. Crappie Greg, I think I remember seeing you guys too. Looks like ya'll caught a good mess. Our luck wasn't as good. We caught plenty, probably 50 or 60 but threw a bunch back due to small size. We were vertical jigging 8-10 foot down in brush piles that are 12-15 feet deep. One particular pile I was catching them just about every drop for about 15 minutes and throwing them back just as fast as I could get them unhooked, just too small. Oh well, catching small ones is still a whole lot more fun than catching nothing. We still brought home enough to stink up a skillet.
I was thinking the same thing about the spider riggers. Until today I had NEVER even seen anyone doing it in person. You don't see it around here (Ouachita, Hamilton, Greeson, etc.) but they were out in full force along with everyone else. Is Nimrod usually that busy on the weekends during the summer? I've never fished it this time of year.
CrappieKeeper and myself ended up with a nice mess and 3 big cats. We were trying where we did well last weekend and the shad and fish just were not there. Talked to a couple guys double spiderrigging out the front of the boat. They said it was their first time over here. They normally fish Blue Mountain but it's being drained. Might be where a lot of them are coming from. Loaded the boat and talked to two guys taking out in a nice Ranger. I thought I recognized them but couldn't place 'em. After they left I told CrappieKeeper I think that that was Jason and Jim Westerberg the team from Conway I believe that won the Crappiemasters Arkansas State Championship this year over at Lake Dardanelle.
Talked to them a minute and they said that the little ones and the cats give them fits too. Very nice guys.
We will be back out there in the morning trying something different for sure.
See y'all on the water!!
Looks Like the assault is taking place... You guys are doing a great job. I know Conway and his partners have been out there limiting out every trip to. Can't wait for Monday Tuesday so I can help with the second attack wave. LOL... Always nice to see the AR State Champions on the lake too. Hope Jim and Jason caught a good mess. Super Nice Father and Son team.
Hey Slabbandit it was nice meeting you today at the boat launch!! Those catfish sure gave us a run for our money today!! But best of all the crappie were bitting very well even know they were on the smaller side it was alot of fun to catch over 100 in a day! its probably been months since we have caught that many in one trip! I ended up cleaning 30 nice crappie today and a few smaller crappie that had swallowed the hook and were a little weak so we kept them so they were not just floating around. That was our first trip to Nimrod since I was a kid and it seemed to be a great place to fish still, I think I will try and make the fall crappie camp this year, it should be a blast if there still bitting like they were today!! Yall dont catch em all I think I may come back over next Saturday and give them another try!
Good Fishing to all! Jason
Thanks Jason, It was nice talking to you today. That's one nice rig you guys have! I was at the Dardanelle weigh-in but I just couldn't remember where I had seen you. Congratulations on winning the Arkansas State Championship!! Thumbs Up
Dave
Great Job Greg. I bet that kept you busy with the knife
