Well put! The last time i was out there several trot lines were almost completely out of the water. If anyone has lost a trot line out there lately i apologize. My trolling motor carries a switch blade:biggrin

I figure if a guy isnt' smart enough to put his lines more that a foot UNDER the water he shouldn't get mad when I have to cut it out of my TM.
I love to trot line sometimes but I wish they would outlaw them cos I feel like Im the only one who knows how to take it off the water when I get done using it. Same goes for YoYO's and limb lines. Wish they would outlaw every one of them, They are dangerous when left out un attended, kill wildlife and fish, an eyesore to fish around, and get in or snag your boats equipment and primarily used by folks who dont know how to grab a pole and catch a fish. Burns me up when im out there with a fishing pole trying to earn a honest living... and a trot Line, limb line, or YOYO hooks me up when im trying to fish. I wonder if the AGFC ever comes out and takes a good look at thier Flagship Lake and say "You Know what we need to do something about all these Trot Lines, Jugs, YoYO's, Limb Lines hanging from all these beautiful Cypress trees." Cracks me up Every time Iv'e seen a game Warden on Conway he is out to give somebody fishing with a fishing pole a ticket. Not one darn time have I ever seen the AGFC checking and cutting down an unused YOYO's or old line from a tree or stump. OR even checking to see if they are properly marked OUT LAW THEM and will all have a better lake to fish.
Totally agree! But i grew up yo-yoing and trot lining and still enjoy it from time to time. Especially at night when i dont feel like battling the heat pole fishing. The only difference is, i spend at LEAST two hours every trip setting up and taking down, so it burns me up when i'm pole fishing and i pull up to a tree that looks really good just to see a limb line or trot line that i have to fish around, or get hung up in, just because someone was too lazy to put in the work to take it down. I hope they dont outlaw them, but I think they should definitely be regulated.
X a zillon i totality agree!!!!!!!!
I saw a yo-yo that I couldn't fault the guy for not removing. It had about a 3 foot slab sided thoroughly pissed off cotton mouth on it.
Personalyy, I have too much money tied up in weights, SS hooks, big barrel swivels to just leave my stuff out if I ain't running them. Now I do leave them out during the day, but if its out for more than 3 days without me checking or rebaiting, then I forgot where it was, or the river came up and I couldn't get too it.
I despise them to, how ever I have witnessed on more than one occasion the agfc cutting down , limb lines, yoyos and trot lines. As far as calling lake Conway their flagship lake, I laugh, if it was their flagship lake it would bE full of walleye, trout and striped bass. The agfc could care less about lake conway, it is run by the d&@n lake Conway home owners assosiation. However I have been checked by the game warden the last two weekends on lake conway, and I have also taken note that he could hardly walk in the boat for all of the limb lines and yoyos laying in the floor of his boat, that he had cut down. It's like the cypress just grow them back after they are cut down. I will give the agfc some credit, do they do enough no, but they do more than what they get credit for. I do not like lazy man fishing equipment hanging from the cypress trees no more than the next fisherman with a rod and reel. I personally cut every trot line And limb line I can get my hands on, if people don't want them cut they should put them below the water surface and run them by the agfc regulations.
I don't have a problem with people using any of the mentioned methods. They just need to learn how to use them and respect that the lakes and rivers are used by more than just them.
I don't trotline anymore but those folks got as much right to do that ,as spiderriggers do what they do. But I do hate to see yoyos and trotlines left out unattended. If I had my way yoyos would be curtailed. I'd like to see handheld poles only on some waters. We are blessed that we have so much water to fish and are allowed to use so many methods.
No comparison in my book, a spider rigger/Troller fishes, and always takes his equipment home when he's done fishing. Where as a Trot Liner, yo yoer or limb liner simply ties a baited string to something and most of the time leaves it for a spider rigger or single poler to get snaged in or kill unused fish and wildlife.
The WO's that I've seen on Conway do a tremendous job cleaning up left lines. I've watched them sleuth around vacated yoyos for hours waiting for the culprit before finally collecting them. I've even watched one leave his boat and walk across a logjam to retrieve a jug. One particular WO I talk to all the time can tell you where every legitimate trotline is on the lake and who owns it, he spends a lot of evenings on one of the hilltops along the east side with binoculars that are almost as big as his Glock. If you ever need a lesson on one-man boat launch and retrieval just watch this fella, just don't blink or you'll miss the whole process.
I don't cut peoples lines or yoyos but I challenge every angler to collect some trash, a bobber, or even some mono in a tree limb every time you're on the lake. You'll feel better about yourself, people that see you will start doing it, and we'll all start enjoying our time on the water even more.
