Sounds good but the price is a little :yikes
Well if you already have an I-Pilot, as in my case, that's a steep price to upgrade. But if I had to replace my I-Pilot the extra cost would be worth it.
How does the GPS on the I-Pilot read the info on the HB GPS? Is it using the transducer cabling in the I-Pilot? I did not think they were linked together.
SeaRay
It's hard to believe that for a starting price of $800 that they'll sell many of 'em....atleast to the crappie fishermen. Maybe there's some hugh advantages of it but I dont see it.
I like the idea a lot, but to get a decent set up any more, you'll spend 10-15 grand with HB.
I guess if none of these features would be an advantage to you, better spend it elsewhere. For me, they'd be a real plus.

If you’re fishing at a certain depth, i-Pilot Link can keep you on it automatically. With a LakeMaster SD card in your Humminbird, Link will follow any contour you choose—in either direction—for as long as you want.
*Follow The Contour feature available only on i-Pilot Link enabled LakeMaster Digital GPS Maps.

You can also stay a set distance from a depth contour or the shoreline by activating Contour Offset. Set your boat a certain distance from either a selected depth contour or the shoreline, and cast to it all day long.
Follow any LakeMaster® depth contour you choose, automatically, or cast to it from a set distance with Contour Offset.

Spot-Lock helps keep you within 5 feet of a fishing spot, like an electronic anchor. When your boat begins to drift more than 5 feet from your selected fishing spot, i-Pilot Link will take you back automatically. You can return to your spot later with Go To.
Go To Spot-Lock...Use Go To Spot-Lock to return to your spot, and lock back into it upon arrival.
Go To Waypoint...Return to a stored waypoint with Go To Waypoint. It automatically takes you to your select waypoint at any speed you choose, and upon arrival, you can go into Spot-Lock, AutoPilot™ or shut off the prop.

Never lose another successful trolling path. iTracks are paths in the water (up to 2 miles long) that you can store and retrace whenever you want.
Go To iTrack...Return to your stored tracks with Go To iTrack. It automatically takes you to the closest waypoint of your selected track, and lets you retrace the path in either direction.

Stay on any heading you choose with unparalleled GPS accuracy while compensating for wind, waves, current and side drift. Just set a heading by using your Humminbird cursor or pointing the motor head in the direction you want to travel. Then push a button and let i-Pilot Link keep you on that heading.

Take wireless command of speed, steering and on/off from anywhere on the boat with the CoPilot functions on your i-Pilot Link remote.

Entice fish with perfect bait presentation by using Cruise Control. Lock in your actual on-the-water speed and adjust it in .1 mile-per-hour increments.
An enthusiast might buy 2 1198's, a 360, this new contraption and say a 101lb thrust Trolling motor that will support it. Plus any ethernet equipment that will be required I bet would put you in the neighborhood of 10K. Throw in a talon or two (which I'd like to have too), and you'll be well over 10. Viewing the 360 on a 798 will be very painful.
I couldn't see paying 800 for it as well as having the actual I pilot . It'd basically giving you another remote as well as integrated with your mapping system if you have lake master.
I have a real nice SI/DI/2D setup but I think I had more fun and definitely caught more fish when I had a 17' Jon boat & an X-85 2D Sonar.
Just my opinion
Great. It was just a matter of time before this stuff became available. However, I find myself using 2d more and more and not using all the cake trimmings.
Don't let my wife hear you saying stuff like that since I just bought and installed a 998c last week. ;)
At first I was a little aggravated at this announcement because I just ordered an ipilot last week but then I realized I would need several other parts just to get it to link together and there isn't much that it will do that I can't already do with just ipilot.
I got my stuff mainly for entertainment. Hullava lot more entertaining and easier to understand than rap music.
It seems my current I-Pilot will do everything this thing is advertised to do with the exception of the contour following and being able to "go to" a waypoint stored in the GPS unit itself. I think I'll just stick with what I got.
HB needs an on board WTR manager installed in the firmware to allow import and export of selected WTR files from the head unit via SD card. It is doable.
If they had had this when I bought my Ipilot and Terrova, I would have considered it. Now that I have Ipilot and Terrova, don't see the justification to upgrade.
Besides, right now, Lakemaster maps of the Tennessee River lakes ( Guntersville/Wheeler ) aren't too impressive.
I am interested in hearing reviews from the early adopters of this and the 360.
10-15K on HB is better than the 700-800k you would need for a decent lowrance setup. I mean an enthusiast might by 4 HDS 10 Gen2's, 4 LLS 2's, 4 LG 4000's, 4 heading sensors, 4 sonic hubs, 6 fuel flow monitors, 40 ft boat to put it all on, lake house with boat house and lift to store it and you still do not get 360 or i pilot link.

Sorry just could not resist.
Joking aside, I want one, I have i pilot now and when I can afford it I will buy it.
I have been thinking a lot about the contour following. It seems on a navionics map you could mark waypoints along a contour and them connect them into an itrack for the new unit to follow. Then to run an offset just zoom in to desired offset and eye ball the scale off of the contour line while marking way points then connect those to have an offset i track.
Now I can sleep while the boat does the fishing... guess I'll have to hook up a bell to go off when I get a bite huh?Rofl
