tying slater cajun style jig

Do you tie these the same way as other jigs. Lay down thread: then tie in the tail: back up to the head : anchor chenille: wrap chenille: do you just tye the other color kip on top and wrap behind the head. I am not sure. I tied one that way and it doesnt look like a slater cajun. Is there a fly tying video i could see. Also what is the name of the technique being used. I am new to tying my own jigs and I am really enjoying it. BTW Thanks to SKIP for answering my questions on feathers. HOPEFULLY one day mine will look as good.

One other thing. That red
thread what size is it.

I use 210 flat waxed Danville thread mostly. I start pretty much everything at the head and end at the head. I make a very good thread base, start the chenille at the head and take it to stoping point and wrap back to the head or just short of that if you want your thread showing and tie it off. If the thread shows make a good many wraps to make a nice neat neck, unless I don't understand what jig you mean.

to tie the slater jig all you do is tie a regular jig like you would normally tie but leave a little room at the neck of the jig then add your hair and simply do a threadneck whip and glue thats pretty much it nothing really to it and thank you micro i sell a ton of these in Louisiana for some reason they are popular there

I love that style of jig, and donnie you tied a beautiful jig there! when I tie in the front wing, I take a little bunch of hair that is longer than I need and lay it in place and wrap over it about 10 times, you will have excess hair sticking out in front of the thread if ya do it this way, then I take a single edge razor blade and just in front of the thread I put the razor blade on the hair being careful not to touch the thread and push down on the hair with the blade, using the jighead as a backstop to push against. the hair will pop right off, but ya gotta have a light hand with a painted head especially powder paint because the blade will chip the paint if ya cut thru the hair too hard. next I take some super glue and just touch a tiny droplet on the hair in front of the thread, and then wrap the thread over that glued thread and finish. I'm sure there are other ways, everyone has their fav way to tie hair.

Redear, it's quicker, stronger and neater if (after you remove the guard-hairs from the fur) you simply measure the length of the wing and then, whilst holding the wing between thumb and finger cut to length... see link Barry Ord Clarke - Sea trout patterns - sea, flies, tying descriptions, Mickey Finn
Before tying the wing in add a drop of super glue or nail polish just behind the head of the jig. To tie wing in, put cut area of the wing flush with back of jig head and make a few loosish turns, then four or five tight turns of thread before whip finishing. After cutting off the tying thread, finish with clear cement.
