I got this unit recently and the down imagery doesn't seam to be showing much detail. I have upgraded the software. I think I just have it set up wrong. I sat watching it for about 8 hours Saturday and only saw changes in the depth of the lake. I adjusted the settings and still I never saw a tree or any kind of cover. Maybe there wasn't any but I find that hard to belive. I was moving at 1.5 mph. Tried adjusting the chart speed and the sensitivity.
Help please!

Well I can't help but I have the same unit ,which i love mine does fine . I found some logs the other day and you could tell they were hollow . I thought that was cool . I bet they can help . don't believe anything I say . just saying .

I have one if those and it works great, take a piece of firewood or cut a small tree, with you next time out, throw it in the water and adjust until it suits you. That away you know what is there, and where !
Too much down angle. Ducer should be level in the water with you in it and best speed for finding stuff is 4-6 mph. Make sure your "chart" speed is the same as your running speed. You have to change it often.Quote:

Turbulence from your boat can be a problem too. You might have to move it up or down on the transome to get in clean water.

Sometimes finding a position for clean water can be hard to do on a flat bottom boat. I would position the ducer between any ribs or ridges.Quote:

Gator I don't have a fancy unit like yours but make sure that your transducer is level in the water at what ever speed you run! I sometimes get mine knocked up or down in stumps and I have to reajust it when it quits working.
gator good luck at geting that thing to read depth at high speeds i got a 570 di above 10 mph it goes crazy but at slow speeds works good

Also on these you need to play with the sensitivity as well as contrast (plus use the DI enhance) I don't use the 800khz at all get better returns with 455.
Match your speed to the boat speed and keep the depth at about a foot or so of actual (this will zoom a bit) that's just some quickies--but your ducer angle is problem #one. I would read the directions again and mount as HB says too. GL
Iffin thats level I would hate to see your conduit work.
Not that this is the correct way in all cases, but,, I mount my ducer between the ribs, take a good straight yard stick and hold it under the boat with the edge up against the bottom of the boat. I then adjust the front of the ducer about 1/16 inch below the edge of the yard stick and adjust the back of the ducer about 1/8 inch below the edge and have had very good luck doing it this way. Also I do my best to make the ducer level from side to side of the boat.
I also fabricate a bracket to attach the ducer to so I only drill 2 holes on the boat and many if necessary in the bracket.
Like this. Except the one on the right was already mounted and see the many holes I try to avoid.

These guys are giving you the same advice I would. Straighten that transducer out for starters. If you want higher-speed depth readings you will have to tweak and possibly move the transducer around a bit. Definitely don’t mount it behind and strakes, ribs, screws or rivets. That mounting plate of E-Z Poleholder’s is a good idea for two reasons:
1. It will help minimize holes in your boat if you have to end up moving the transducer bracket upwards or downwards.
2. It also pushes the transducer back away from the transom. In my experience this helps with higher-speed depth readings on any boat (it has to do with the waqy the water flows off the bottom of the hull).
