Not Milford but we have been doing great at Pomona catching wipers and white bass. We limited out on wipers this morning by 8:15 after getting on the water at 7:30. Biggest we kept was 23 inches and the smallest we kept was 20. Caught probably 12 or 15 that we threw back that were 16-19 inches.
Caught all of them trolling white bombers on the humps in wolf creek arm.
Cleaned 21 white bass this morning as well. Once we found them on the humps we couldnt troll 50 yards without catching either a white bass or a wiper. It was great!!:biggrin
Wipers were real good at Mildord in the morning. Bite really droped off towards 11am. Wind is a problem this time of year. Seeing a lot of smallish fish, lots of 16" to 22". Caught probably 35 -40 in the morning, didn't break 22". Caught more Wipers then Whites.
Wow! If you are calling a 22 inch wiper a "smallish" fish then what in the world is a big wiper at Milford? Maybe I need to get headed up that way!!:fish
You say you caught more Wipers then Whites so do you mean you caught all the Wipers first and then nothing but White Bass or do you mean you caught more Wipers Than White bass?
We normally catch both species at the same time in the same areas. I have not noticed a time difference for catching one species or the other once we find them such as catching one species exclusively and then the other later.
Maybe there is something to the timing of one versus the other. I had not thought of that. :dono
Crappieslinger, Are they surfacing in the morning. My boat is not set up for trolling so I do alot of casting and I love top water action but have never fished Pomona to date.

They are surfacing but not as much as they have in the past. They are hard to stay with once they start surfacing, they go down pretty quick and it takes a while to find them again.
When we were chasing them on the surface a couple weeks ago probably 3 out of 4 times it would be White bass and not Wipers.
We normally have the best luck chasing them on the surface about the last hour of daylight as opposed to mornings.
Thanks Crappieslinger, since I have never caught a wiper what does a 22 inch fish weigh? Seems like a big fish to me.
Zeepo
It has been a while since I have weighed any fish as I normally go by length but I would say a 22 incher would weigh 5-6 lbs. A 22 incher is a great fish in my book and a whole lot of fun to catch especially on light tackle!
Here is one that i caught on topwater a couple of weeks ago!!Attachment 94421
Here is one that I caught yesterday throwing a Shadrap for walleye, the walleye was right at 19"!!Attachment 94424
Attachment 94573Caught this one on a flicker shad at the Glen.
I have done real good this time of year on the North or South Island fishing with live shad. The shad are easy to catch in the back of Curtis Creek cove from the Boat Ramp. You can make you a small shad tank with a capacity of about 15 gallons. I just put a stand up aerator and get the 12 volt power form my trolling batteries. I would suggest you only put about 15 or so in the bucket because that is all that will stay alive very long and use Shad Saver which you can purchase at most bait shops. I am attaching a screenshot where I have caught them at Milford.

Thanks for the help. Do you think large shiners would work?

Gonna head down to Milford early Tuesday morning, just wondering if anyone has any updated fishing reports. Crappie, whites, wiper or walleye.
We throw 5 and 6 inch swim baits when we're locked into um, normally trolling only 1 oz mag traps, doubled down on both sides, starting with a 6' split then sliming down to 3' once we find um. Useing the same size and brand lure keeps the tangles down, specially in heavy wind when the boats slipping sideways. Lots of lakes to catch 22"s in, lot closer to home. Milford, we're looking for 26"s, very doable on a good day. Besides big Blues, Wipers and Stripers are my species of choice. For something different, and so you don't have to chase and carry shad in the heat, try still fishing with liver, like you would for cats. Works good too, sometimes, specialy in winter. ;)
Thats good information. Thanks a bunch.

My son's crew have been doing pretty good there lately on catfish and walleye just using shrimp and pitching jigs. About 1/2 of their wallys are coming on shrimp and they are BIG. Yesterdays catch included a couple 25# blues and a dozen or so walleyes, all of them 5# or bigger.
I remember when I used to catch fish like that, guess I'm getting that ole man smell to me. I think he posts on Facebook. Nick, I know your an avid waterfowler, check his page out. Does anybody remember those old waterfowl pictures from way back, the ones where there's ducks everywhere. Piles on the ground, hanging off of anything and everything. Check these pics out there, full size PU beds heaped and overflowing. The last day of season pictures have 60 ducks with 10 guys, it's freaking crazy, what have I created.
The wife decided we need to go fishin in the morn, so we are headed that way. Just curious as to what end of the lake they are fishin and water depth crappiedoc?
We fished up on the piont by Madison, we caught a ton of whites, a few wiper, tons of cats with one weighing 57# on our scale and a few walley with one I caught around 7#. We where fishing in 21 fow. Other guys where having luck down by the tower catching wipers in 10 fow. Starting out deep and just drifting in.
I fished the flats between Rebecca road and Curtis creek point the last two weeks at night and we been doing decent on blues and channel. We caught one real good one last week brought 11 home for the fryer. First week we used cut white bass and shrimp with most coming in on cut bait. This week we used cut shrimp and shrimp with all but one coming in on the shad.
Thanks for the good info fellas. Hopin to get my wife hooked up to a larger than usual blue. She has done a great job on the channels uo to 10lbs but hasn't hooked up with anthing bigger. I put one in the boat just short of 42lbs several weekends ago but haven't been back out since. Picked up that one off the east-west dike on the back side of Indian point jigging for walleyes. Was released to fight another day. That was one of three hooked up to that day that I got to the boat.
Fished Sat morn till it got too hot for the wife. Did OK, kept a couple of wallys for the table and released several several flatheads that ran 13-15 lbs. The wife had a good time and I was happy for her. Fished rocked piles in 18-23 fow on the middle part of the lake. Couldn't scratch a fish any shallower. Several limits of keeper walleyes were taken up around the cartops area also from several different parties of boats that morn too.
Sounds like I need to make the trip to Milford! There has been some nice fish caught there recently. I have read about a lot of big blue being caught recently as well.
The 'cartops' are located off of Farnam Creek camping area on the main lake. Has a series of humps and such along the river channel and toward the bank. Going to the south along the bank you'll find a nice flat also.
Thanks
