Did you remove the SD card that has the update .bin file on it...??
The unit automatically looks for a .bin file on the SD card every time the unit is powered on....If you don't remove the SD card that has the update .bin file on it, the unit will recognize it every time...
Snapshots are written in .png format by the unit..(I think this forum even supports .png uploads)
You can load them onto your computer, open the snapshots with "Paint" (or other picture viewing software), then "Resave" the snapshots in another format...

So your saying when i get the new update I need to remove card before I start it up,another question do I need to remove(erase) the old update from my card or leave it on there
It shouldn't be asking you after it is updated. Make sure you are reading the prompts & answering the question correctly. I think the second question is do you want to abort? If you answer yes the update doesn't start. I've made the mistake myself.
Wiskers may be correct that the unit is not actually updating...
The first question it asks is "Do you want to update to version xxxxx?" (answer-yes)
The next question it asks is "Do you want to abort update"... (answer- no)
Then the unit will go thru the update process...(screens changing colors, power down and power up)..
These are the steps the guys at http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/in...p?topic=4167.0 are recommending:
1. With unit off, remove all cards and turn unit on.
2. Restore factory defaults
3. insert sd card with update
4. follow prompts
5. when update is done, remove card
6* restore factory defaults
7. turn unit off and back on, and set personal selections;.

Some people use the same card for updating and saving snapshots and recordings..
I have a dedicated SD card just for updating...(1 software version on the card)..
There have been too many stories of updating units gone awry that I dont want to take the chance of locking my unit up...
SD cards are cheap ...compared to the HB service fee of unlocking a unit...
I keep 5 SD cards with my unit at all times..
1 for present version of software
1 for previous version of software
1 for backed up waypoints
1 for saved snapshots and recordings
1 for todays snapshots and recordings

OK guys I erased the old update and installed the newer version and it seems to be right now.I use 1 card for snapshots and updates, seems its better to have a seperate card for updates and snapshots right
Some guys very successfully keep software versions, snapshots, recordings, wp data.. All on the same SD card...(HB has no set recommendation on this topic)..
It seems that most (or some?) unit lockups are caused by corrupt data on a SD card in one form or another...
My OCD just leads me to believe that the less data I have crammed onto 1 card-the less likely that data is going to lock up my unit...
Like I mentioned before.. SD cards are much cheaper than the HB service fee of sending a unit to Eufala....

I may be asking wrong ,or just not understanding.WHEN I do an update on my card from my pc,then Upload it to my unit, then just remove card when its done carry an extra card just for wp,snapshots, recording and stuff, sounds simple enuff if thats right. Thanks guys
If you have two updates on one card .. The new and the older update -- when you power on the unit the unit will see the downgraded software and then ask you if you want to replace your new software with the old software... if you downgrade it the next time it comes on its going to ask you to upgrade it again because the unit is only looking for a different .bin (software) file. The unit will ask every time you power it on with card in it or, will prompt you when you insert the card that has a software file on it, into a unit that is already powered up.
Thank you,
Deborah @ Humminbird
That is basically what I do...
After I have updated my unit.. I remove the SD card that has the .bin file software version on it and insert a different blank SD card for snapshots and recordings...
I also keep a seperate SD card that contains my previous version of software so that I can revert to it if something goes awry in the aforementioned update process...
