Yikess uses them and so does billbob. I tried them and did not care for them. Some folks really like them though.

I usually start out the day using them to see if they make a difference. Be sure and get the flag kit when you order. They make it much easier to detect the bite of a smaller fish like the crappie verses a walleye.
Be pulling crankbaits this weekend at bay springs and pickwick if you want to tag along, the only way to learn it is to watch it done.
Wayne, would love to but I work on Saturdays and have church on Sundays. I will be pullin cranks next wednesday if nothing happens, havent decided if it will be at Mill Creek or Goat Island. Have on fished one time at Bay Springs, so I know nothing about that area
thanks
Larry
I use them. But I use a mast system and shower curtain rings (with clips) to slide the cranks down the line toward the planer board. One planer board per side, with three lines per side. Sort of similar to this pic:

Here is a pic of the style clip that I use:

Explain how you rig that clip.

Metal ring goes on the line running from the mast to the planer board. After setting lure back desired length, I clip the fishing line into the padded clip. Next you let out the more fishing line to move the metal ring closer to the planer board.
When a fish hits, it generally snaps the line out of the clip and you reel in like you would do any longlined caught fish. Occasionally you will have a small one that won't release, then you just reel the line taught and snap the rod and it will release. You can tell if your plug is fouled or small fish by watching the line vibrate where the ring is (just like you can tell by looking at a rod tip on normal longline). Oh yeah, once released from the clip, the ring will slide toward the planer board. So be sure to have plenty of rings.
Much easier for me to use a mast than to use an inline planer board which slides down the line to the fish, and having to unclip the planer board after ever caught fish. For use with the mast, I like a longer and double board.
What about turning, any different?

Slightly wider turns, due to wider spread (inside cranks will want to stall and float up). Of course you can speed up in the turns, if you need to make a tighter turn.
I assume the clip slides towards the board with the ring? Wouldn't you need a bunch of clips too?

Where can I find a set up like this??
Got another question, say you got 5 lines out on your main and the number 3 line gets a fesh. How do you replce that one just move your rods up one and put it to the inside?:donoAm guessing that same length rods would be fine witht his set up as well??:dono
You will need plenty of clips (minimum of 2 dozen). Janns netcraft has clips with alligator clips that work ok OR you can use offshore tackle clips (or any other brand release) with your own shower curtain rings.
If middle line catches fish, then take inside line and let out line. The ring will slide down planerboard line, just stop it when it gets to the middle spot. Let new lure out on the inside.
Setback is constant for all rods. Yes you can use same length rods (or various length) as the planerboard line is what is keeping the spread.
I have a few questions. How do you work an umbrella or bimini top into that set-up? Does the mast have it's on base or do you use a seat base? How many clips do you normally take with you? It looks like all the dinks at Enid and Sardis would be a real pain if you didn't take a bucket load of clips.
The BIG JOHNS have their own base that can be mounted on the very front of the boat., Or you can get them to fit a seat mount. The whole set up with 2 boards is a little less than 400.00. You can make your own releases with shower curtain rings and small alligator clips, just put a piece of small rubber hose over the teeth of the alligator clips.
