Skiatook

Fished Skiatook this weekend because its pretty much the only lake in the area that is below or at normal elevation. The water was very clear and my Lowrance was going crazy with fish and shad. Only caught three dinks. Havent fished Skiatook in a few years since I've gotten a taste of catching Oologah and Eufaula crappie. Fished the osage park and highway 20 bridge area. I tried minnows and just about every color bobby garland produces. LOL. Any tips or approximate area the fish are biting? It may be awhile before I get to fish Oologah with the water level being so darn high.

Keystone is almost back to normal, but the water was still pretty muddy the last time I was out there (last Friday). Mud Creek is great crappie fishing when you can catch the lake somewhat stable, and it isn't far from Skiatook. I've fished Skiatook a lot in the past, but rarely caught any big crappie.

Try the bridge pillars under the bridge just across from the Bull Creek Penninsula boat ramp. We used to catch them there pretty good all summer. The dock there at the ramp is good too if you get there first thing in the morning. Minnows are the preferred bait there.

I took a buddy out to birch just north of skiatook on sat. it was poor fishing, 2 crappie 4 bass and some bluegill. Great looking lake but the low pressure was right over us, so I will give it another shot under better conditions.

Have a boat in a slip at Crystal Bay Marina. 2010 Suntracker Fishing Barge named Norma Jean after my deceased mother. Fish there alot, don't even have a trailor. We had pretty good luck over the winter and this spring. Weird that they were shallow early and deeper now after the all the rain. Just posted a pic of my big crappie on the Big Fish Thread. Haven't been in a couple of weeks due to family health issues, but have always had luck in the slips and at the highway 20 bridge. Have been catching a bunch on Bobby Garland baby shad sunrise. Of course they are orange. I love all things orange and the lures seem to be no exception. White baby shad with orange jig heads have been pretty good. Starting to think the crappie there are OSU fans. If you see us, give a yell.

Are you still trying Skiatook? Will be headed out this week end. Don't know the lake terribly well, but have caught a few nice ones. We are on the Suntracker 21 fishing barge named Norma Jean. Give us a holler if you see us.

Im considering going tomorrow evening. I'm in a charcoal gray 20' SeaArk with a black Suzuki motor. I have a Crappie.com Sticker on the back.

Kept an eye out for you but no luck. Fished in the slips because of wind. Caught 7 keeper crappies and one keeper large mouth. Had some others but not worth cleaning. Did have several break lines, must have been catfish, hybrids, or bass. Fun though. Beautiful sunset Saturday night. Maybe next time.

Attachment 133653 Fished Skiatook yesterday for the first time. All my other lakes are high (except Wister, but it was too late in the day and forecast to be 100 degrees that far south). Thanks to all the posters on this site I had a place to start, a bait and a pattern to try. I caught between 40 and 50 fish 10 to 12 inches. I was throwing them back but soon realized that was the size the lake was going to give me. I ended up with 28 after I started keeping. Nothing over 12". I launched at Black Dog and went to the highway 20 bridge, started in the timbers but did not see many fish on the finder. Headed to the rip on highway 20, found scattered fish on the bottom and near the bottom at 20 to 25 FOW near were the rock from the rip ends underwater. I cruised that rip edge for a 1/8 of a mile looking with the SI depth finder marking 2 very large piles of wood piles. I immediately started catching fish at 20 to 25 FOW everywhere from the very bottom to 15 feet deep. Fished the first pile for 3 hours and the second pile for 2 hours, cleaned fish and came home. A couple of things I am learning; 1. Explore with your finder before you fish, especially at a new place. The hour and a half I spent looking paid off. 2. Trust your finder, you bought it for a reason! 3. Different lakes fish differently, I don't fish like that this time of year at any of my usual lakes. I used minnows and jigs, minnows out fished the jigs by a far margin.

Great news! You'll have to come fish Oologah with me someday. I like your advice as well....

Yah, they definitely aren't the biggest crappie at Skiatook, but glad you caught a mess. When I was there the other day, I found that it seemed like I caught more in smaller isolated piles over the bigger ones. Thanks for the report.

I think most crappie fisherman have pulled up to a spot that they "know" holds fish, only to have the finder disagree with them, being stubborn as we are we proceed to waste a 1/2 hour in a futile attempt to be smarter than a _ _ _ _.00$ fish finder.

Well hit Skiatook yesterday for the first time. Put in at Black Dog and headed for the bridge area. Caught about 30 fish all short they ranged from 8-9 1/2" long. Only one over 10". 25 FOW on brush about 2' off bottom. Two fish caught on jigs the rest came off minnows. Will be heading back up there some time to look around some more.
