I have been useing high vis yellow for about 8 years now........I really do not think it makes any difference. I could see where it might in really clear water but the waters that I fish are not what I would call clear.
Ohhhh boy...all kinds of opinions on that one. Ronny Capps swears the fish kin see it...on the other hand, hi vis is on all of our poles...then again, we don't catch many fish....6 of one half dozen of the other....
Yep....Ronnie Capps swears the fish can see it and Todd Huckabee says they can't. I have done some comparison fishing two poles at the same time rigged just alike.....same jigs and everything.... one with high vis yellow and one with clear and I was catching the same amount of fish on both of them. I prefer the high vis so I can see the line....I think that keeps me ffrom missing fish sometimes as I see the line move.
Personally We tried it side pulling in the same boat one day 4 rods with and 4 with clear line same lb test line and the clear caught 6 fish bfore the hi vis had 1 fish, we also tried it Bream fishing and in certain places the hi vis did not catch as many fish!
Most things fishing is just what you get used too.....what your comfortable with, and what you have confidence in.
No way to compare. I have Hi-vis on all my poles, some days I can't get a bite on the right side of the boat. Other days can't get a bite on the left, with everything the same on both sides.
I'm not sure if they can see the hi vis or not but I like the hi vis so I can watch the line. Sometimes especially if the bite is light all you will see is the line move off to the side and if I had clear line on my poles I would have never the bite.
Not sure either but I run hiviz on the reels and Trilene floro below the sinker. That way I can see the line and maybe they won't see it. Keep a small 100 yard spool up front for re-riggn or use on my pre-rigs.

If you can see it better dont you think the fish can see it better too........... When you put something that is high vis in the water, your in the fish's house. I use florocarbon line always whether it is clear water or not. I have compared it side by side too and florocarbon line out performs. I have only compared it once and that was enough.
Aw bobby you're being too hard on yourself. The gar didn't seem to mind your hi viz at all
All I use is hi-vis line. If clear line catches more fish then I wouldnt be able to handle it. IMO, in stained water (which is what I fish 99.9% of the time) the fish cannot see it or just dont care...whichever the case may be.
We have fished the same spots many times. Some days you catch more than me, other days I catch more than you. I don't think the hi-vis is a negative for the fish, but no way to know for sure. I do know it helps me, and especially my clients, see the bite. Besides, flourocarbon is expensive and I haven't won 7 or 8 national championships like you! I be poor!:biggrin
I mostly fish by myself,so really have not noticed less catches. But after the last couple trips, thinking I will try clear for a while.Love being able to see the line, just hate being out fished.
The fish didn't seem to mind the hi vis yesterday !!!
You just need more fishin lessons. You'll catch on...eventually.
Dont think line color matters its whats tied to the end of it.
I know there are a lot of hi vis lovers here, but all the rods were rigged the same.Half clear and the other half hi vis ,clear caught more fish.I think from what I'm hearing the advantage is being able to see the line.Well I'm not a geezer yet.lol
Actually I use both at the same time. When I Spider Rig, my main line is Hi Viz, and I tie my rigs with Silver Thread AN-40 in the clear silver. Works for me. I think the fish Can see the Hi Viz. On a finicky or soft bite it could make a difference. On a hard bite, it might not make much difference, but I ain't takin that chance in a Tourney!!!

They can see it. You tie on a flr green jig to get their attention but you somehow think they can't see see flr green line
I started using pre tied rigs with a jig, egg sinker, and swivel on a 3 ft. leader of 12# fluorocarbon. I keep those wrapped on a piece of swimming noodle. I just snap it on my hi vis and go fishing. The best of both worlds.
Just curious, but I understand fish are colorblind? Always wondered if they are, why we got all them pretty colors?? Obviously I know colors DO make a difference...anyone know the facts on this??
Fish are not colorblind. They can see colors like ultraviolets that we can't. That's what I understand anyway.
YES they can see my high - viz line. it's my weight and my hook they can't see. and my bright PANK jig looks just like a real minner. they are reeeeeeaaaaaaal smart
Big C, from what these guys are saying, nothing is wrong with the line, you just need to learn how to fish.
You could take up knitting or something like that...use that hi vis line to knit yourself a scarf or a sweater.
Kicker i'm working on your scarf , come get it..And by the way ES is ignert,he ran a 10'gar all in my rods and laughed.Just so everybody knows I hate ES & Kicker. Also looking for a new partner& ES broke my seat. The boy is getting fatter every time I see him.For the real fisherman that care I changed all my reels and will let yall know
