Looks like My jackplate is blocking my left side some but every once in a while, the screen shows a clear picture all the way out. This does not last long usually though. Is this a blockage for sure or some other issue?

I get the exact same line on mine. It looks to be clear but I think mine is maybe blocked a little. I was going to try to angle the transducr down a bit to see if it helps. Your pic looks sharper than mine what other setting sre you using.
Not Much else on the settings. Been keeping My SI range around 75 feet. That helps with the sharpness. Mostly fool around with SI enhance when I am messing with settings. The pic with the Amber color that has the Menu at the bottom, that is how I keep it when searching structure. Turn sharpness up to low or medium when looking for fish. That sharpness will sure make the pic look grainy when turned up too high but sure makes the fish pop out at You.
make sure Your boat speed is matched close to Your screen speed. Other than That, I don't know.CF

Odd that it clears up occassionally...
You might try temporarily monting the xducer to a pole or broom handle and stick it farther down in the water to test if it is the jackplate for sure...

Yeah, It is always on the left side. I pretty sure I am getting some blockage from the jackplate. When I do a line of site from the ducer to the jack plate, it is so close that I can't say for sure if it is getting a clear line or not and if it is that close, then I would think that that is what it is. Planning on grinding a little of the jackplate off to help. It won't hurt the plate as there is plenty of meat there to get rid of. Just need to shave a quarter to a half inch off and there will be clear line of site. BUT, the thing does come in clear on that side from time to time. Might need to try the ducer on a piece of pvc pipe. Don't know which route to take exactly yet.CFQuote:

Thanks C&C. I have not updated mine since I got it. It still has the 5.4 version on it. have been planning on doing the update to 5.8 and that will be the one that I can save. Have any idea what the difference between the two versions are?CF

Oh Yeah, I forgot that I also have my settings set for shallow water and salt water because I fish mostly at 20 feet and shallower. Might help if You get a crisper picture if You are fishing shallower water like I am.CFQuote:

Are you certain that it is not just that the lake bottom on the left side did not drop off suddenly?
try standing/staying on the right side of the boat or the left, may be a weight issue in the boat (lean) if it clears up sometimes.
I tried leaning over, That did not help. I don't have anyone else around that has an SI that I know of to switch heads with. There is nothing blocking intermittent. Looks like I may have a problem here.CF

Maybe there is a connection issue at the connector pin that goes to the left SI element crystal in the xducer..
Those horizontal lines on the left side of the amber image (that almost look like RF interference) seem like they may be an intermitant ping ....

Went out yesterday to try out the 798 since I updated it and seemed to work fine. Now for more info on what is going on with the left side. Seemed to work fine on the left side but that side was a smidge darker than the right most of the time as long as I was in deeper water in like 15 feet. If I went up into like 6 or 7 feet of water, the side would start doing like the pics at the beginning of this thread are showing. Can't figure this one out.CF
Oh Yeah, I also ran the left side closer to the bank as to eliminate the drop off issue. was in 7 feet of water, 60 feet from the bank but could only see the 40 feet at best. Don't understand.CF

Both ....from the rear looking level with the xducer...
And from port looking level toward the starboard...
