I have only half of what I am tying for a guy that wants some flies for blue gills. I am thinking I could also put these under a bobber for a spinning rig?

rsab, the ones on the left are a copy or my version of what is called a Jitterbee and the top one is it and the 3 below are versions I put something hot on them to draw strikes.
Here is where I saw them recently, had seen them before, but got a reminder on the jig board.

I done went a bought me a handful of fly reels and line.Now i need to get some fly rods to put them on and im going to start trying out some fly's.....for sure
I didn't have one until a few years back and once I got into tying flies too it was an easy step to a fly rod. I bought my first one from walmart for like $20 for the entire rig. Needless to say it's not much so I then got a really nice rig from Cabela's and have been wanting to crappie fish with it in the spring when they are shallow, but the last couple years out lake and the water has not let them really get shallow for one reason or another. So I wait and keep saying next year. I can use it on gills though and lots of fun.

When I tied with maribou, I found shorter tails sometimes help catch more fish. Now
when I purchase maribou jigs, I'll snip off some of the tail in the shape of a fin >o(())>.
At least I like the look.
I tied marabou how ever someone wants it, but for my personal use I like longer tails than some. I have cut down on the length a little as I use to have them way long, but never had any trouble with crappie loving them. I was using some like that about 54 years ago and found some crappie bedding in 2' or less water and I was using my long pole like a fly rod somewhat by flipping it from side to side and moving along with my troll motor pulling the Roadrunner as I went. I had one that had a Hot Orange tail and they were really after that thing and I could pull it along where I could still see it and watch them come up and take it. Never had one miss or turn away as they all just ate it. I don't make them that long any more, but I do still have a lot of them that I tied like 5 to 6 years back and when I pull them out I can't believe I had them so long, LOL! I always use a 1/32 Oz Roadrunner in the spring so it was easy to pull them so I could see them since I only had like 14' of line out.

That's not uncommon. I was talking to a guy just the other day who said the same thing. Now, he's upgrading, too. I always tell people to stay away from the super cheap fly outfits. You don't have to spend a ton of money to get a good one, though.Quote:
