I had to cut some off the end of my pole Saturday where it had somehow tied a double eagle scout knot around the end of my pole. It is bad about wrapping around the end of the rod when I get hung and hafta jerk it loose.
One thing. let it Dry and then it's easier to get untangled.
Use mono on everything, as Feelay says, "It's just a crappy".
Love the braid!!! It does tangle and it catches on everything, but ya never have to worry about the knots, and the strength is worth it. Pays for itself in saved baits.

I think the tangles are easier to undo than Mono. At least its a lot easier for me.
At 7 bucks for 1200 yards tangles arent an issue with mono.
If you are pulling cranks through timber all the time I would think it would be a must but where I fesh havent seen the need for it, may change my mind never know.
It is all i use anymore. The little bit of agrivation is worth not having to change out line all the time and small dia. vs strength makes a difference to me.
30lb braid.
Braid? Really?
Last time I checked our target fish was about 1.5 pounds with an occasional one a little bigger.
Yeah it is strong, flexable and has a small diameter, but that crap should be controlled. They should not let just anybody buy it and use. Should have to prove that you at least have a little sense before they sell it to you, and then if you buy 250 yards this year, to replace it you should have to turn in 225 yards to buy another spool.
Everybody says "well I use it so I don't lose my bait". Then the same yahoos will pull off 20 yards of it cut if off the reel, roll it in a ball and throw it overboard, or leave it in the bottom of the boat to blow out later. Well I hate to tell you if you ever hook this crap in the water, you aint getting your bait back, whether you are running braid or not. Then all of the extra line you just lost contributes to the problem.
It is a good product, but since it is like nylon and never breaks down it is very frustrating to snag this stuff in the water. It does not give. You, your equipment, and or your patience is what gives in these situations. Have you ever tried to unwind that crap off of a trolling motor? It sure is fun.
And yes I am especially talking to all of you green carpers with the DD22's and the Carolina rigs.
I'v snaged more mono than braid.
Mono and have never lost a crank. You are targeting a fish less than 3pds. (its a crappie not a redfish). When thet get to the top there is no fight anyways.Plus you can a get mile of it at BPS for cheap.
It's not about the fish... It's the cover, catfish, and gar. If you don't like braid don't use it. If you do use it.
I use 20# braid when pulling cranks. With no stretch, I can tell if a bait is not running perfect just by the vibrations of my rod tip. You will loose less baits due to hang ups with braid also. Any other time I use mono.
But when you get crossed up it takes all day to untangle or as Chilly says cut it out and throw over the side. I think mono will untangle easier.
It is harder to untangle but for me it's worth the trouble to use when pulling cranks. That is the only time I use it though. I buy the cheap stuff from Hong Kong off of eBay, $12.50 and free shipping for 300 meters.
To help with it getting tangled and wrapped around your rod, I use bow wax on my rods. That helps. I've also tried to lightly wax the first 20 yards of braid and it seems to help. Sounds like a lot of work to use braid, but I like so I'll continue to use it.
I'm still convinced that fish can see braid in clearer water. I've witnessed it on several occasions. 4 poles with braid and 4 poles with mono. The mono poles get bit 10-1 over braid. In stained to dirty water it doesn't make as big a difference.
No way on earth I woild EVER use braid in shallow water spawning conditions. With zero stretch you are gonna have alot of fish pull off. Then again I might not be tellin yall all this. That being said I dont really like it for anything else either.
I just put some of that nano Fil on my UL setups for bobber fishing the banks. Suposed to be easy to cast and no twist!!!
After reading some of the benefits of using braid by some of the guys on this board who's opinion I respect I decided to give braid a try. What I found was that once you get it wet it tends to stick to the pole making it almost impossible to use 1/4 ounce minnow rigs. The 1/2 ounce weights weren't as bad but if you tried to shake the line loose then it made matters worse by getting tangled on the rod tip. I tried it on a couple outings with the same results so I ended up cutting the whole mess off and going back to my 10# Hi-vis Vicious.
You're also assuming we all are unethical enough to throw our used line in the water. Most on here wouldn't do that, but yahoos, come on dude.

Good question Gary
Come over here to Greers and pull cranks and you will get some braid or the owners of Bandit Lures will be sure to send you a Christmas Card every year.
