I know that the ones that longline use a Road Runner type jig head most of the time but what kinda grub or jig body do you use?
Thanks in advance for your input.

i'm also interested in longlineing. any info would be appreciated What speeds, line diameter, reels and rod type, how far behind the boat do you pull these jigs?
John, no expert here but I use minnow head or round head jigs that I have tied or will put a curly tail jig or I am using this year the Lake Fork baby shad (2 1/4 inch) here is a picture of some heads I just finished up painting eyes on and sealing them, also this is the curly tail jigs that I use. This company I help to get started as a vendor at Walmart when I was in mgmt there and he wound up starting in Florence Alabama and then got in the entire company nationwide. It was a mom & pop setup and now the son has took it over. Jimmy Edwards is his name and he is christian man and a great fisherman. Here is a link to his site

LARRY, WHERE DO YOU GET THOSE SICKLES WITH THE BARB? DO YOU POUR THEM OR BUY THEM UNPAINTED?WHAT SIZE HOOK AND WEIGHT JIG? I don't know squat bout long linning and need advise also!!
OLD GEEZER FISHERMEN NEVER DIE, THEY JUST SMELL THAT WAY!!
Larry is 1/4 oz what you normally use???
Correction, the above jigs were made using 2/0 hooks :)
I pull ball head type jigs with #2 hooks in either 1/16th or 1/32nd weights. I hardly ever fish any water more than 20' deep and I longline 12 months a year. Here's 1 box of the jig bodies I use (Southern Pro Hot Grubs and look alikes)...
I have had some decent luck using these 1/4 and 1/8 oz with # 1/0 or 2/0 sickle hooks.
Mr Jim, what is the name of those jigs? I've never seen them before.
Creekslick on the AR. board makes a mid-spin jig in 1/16, 1/8, and 1/4. You can find them online under the name of Slick Jigs. He just poured me 10 dozen of them. He long lines all year. I got a dozen each of his favorite 10 colors.

Bobby Garland StrollR's is the ONLY body I use.... They are great..
Great info here
I like the belly spinner jigs like creek showed in a 1/16 oz. And like DGOO said, the StrollR's by Bobby Garland are great bodies for longlining. They put off a vibration in the water due to the paddle on the end of the curly tail. If you'll use the same size jigs on all of your poles, you'll be able to judge depth better. Listen to everything gabowman says on longlining. He knows his stuff. Anything you can read by Bo Hudson, Brad Chappell, or BassCat21 is very helpful. Here's the link to a great article that BassCat21, Bernard Williams, wrote for MCC.

Hey Creek those are slick with the spinner tied behind the head. Does that give the jig lift and do they foul much? What size split and what kinda swivel?

Mr. Jim, those double spins look really cool too!And that blade clackin makes sense, specially in dirty water!! All you guys are innovators! I never even thought about such a thing!!Thanks for the great info!!

Have any of yall used any of those colored blades much like a spinner bait?when i say colored, i mean yellow, green, white, or even 2 tone on same blade?not just copper or nickle!

Keep it coming guys, great info , thanks
I came up with those out of desperation, had this honey hole that was great, but if the river got in there the fish got lockjaw i tried everything could not get to bite, came up with the double blades hittin and that solved the mystery, started catchin em in muddy water.
I have never had one foul on me. I think it does give the jig a little lift. I use the same size splitring and crane swivel that I use on ponyheads with a #1 blade. They do catch fish. I have caught 13 limits in a row on Greers and these with a crappie nibblits is all I use.
Yep
Thanks, I can handle that. Berkley's?
Yea they do come off after 20-30 minutes or so in the water. If you are not getting bite roll up and put some more on.

Lots of good information and tips in here. Appreciate it guys!!
Them light wire hooks are very handy in stumpy crud. Jig loss is real minimal
