Almost every time we reeled in a fish, we pulled another line in with it. I was wondering if we was doing somthing wrong? We had 3 poles on each side, 8' in back w/100' of line out, 12' in middle w/80' of line out, and 16' in front w/60' of line out. Is that right or shoud I run more line out on the longer poles and less on shorter poles?
Long poles need the most line, should solve most of your prob. Also when u get a fish on hold the rod up and let the fish come to the top and then reel him in.

Gator, are you sure your lines aren't crossing during your turns?
If he had hos long lines to the inside then he ain't got to turn if he gets a fish on

Ok, more info, I didn't really make any turns, very slight ones. Also when we got a fish we did get them to the surface and "ski" them to the boat. Thanks Rees, next time I'll let the longer poles out farther and shorten up the short poles. Tks fer info.
So, G1, u r using different size lures on different length poles, or u r intentionally running them at different depths in order to locate them?
We were running them at different depths to find fish, when we started we had them at 120',100', & 80'. We didn't catch any on the 120' lines so we changed them to 100',80',& 60'. Started catching more fish and on all poles. Was that a fluke or was they just shallower?...
Once I find a good depth, I run all mine the same length out. If the bite changes, I change em 10-20 ft either way, in or out. I never have trouble with crossing lines, but it happens to everyone on occasion. You might have a bait or two that's not running true.

We were using #200's, when we got to cookout and talked to others they were using #300,s... Funny how when we shallowed up we caught more fish, but they were catching fish on deeper baits..
The turns is where you get your lines crossed I run 15 foot in line length difference on each pole and don't have to many problems. If you're running sideways with the wind, it'll cause the lines to get pushed onto one another at times to

now that's just crazy right there. Your cranks may not be running straight.
gonna check that, they are all brand new tho, we couldn't establish a color tho, caught them on every thing from black, pink, chartuse, white, and silver.
I caught several yesterday on Barnett pulling cranks. 99% of em on a Chrome bait with a chartreuse lip and red belly. Dang batteries died to I went up the lake to see if they were shallow. AHHH HAHAHAA waste of gas
Yea we killed my trolling battery too. In about 4-5 hours. Going to buy one more so I'll have two. Might check on gulf cart battery.
Listening to Kent Driscoll's siminar at Grizzly Jig, he runs the inside rods next to his motor out farther. His reason for that was in case the boat spooked fish directly under it, they would have more time to get over it. Just be sure you have around 4 ft of line separation and that your cranks are running true.
Scott, that's what I thought he said on DVD. Wonder if it was just a fluke, didn't do it everytime, just more than I would of liked. Which line do you let out first? Short poles or long poles.
It varies, just whichever I pick up first. As long as you have good line separation, it shouldn't matter.
Dave.....I was running 300's Saturday running anywhere from 45 ft' to 65 ft. of line out. Four feet of separation between all of the lines. You saw how my boat was set up....pulling 6 poles all from the back of the boat off of my hi-teks. Running the TM at 1.6 mph.....no problems with lines crossing. Turns no problems. I saw how deep the fish were on my FF and set my lines where my baits would be above them.

You've gotten a lot of good advice on here Gator, the only thing I would add is that you have to spend time on the water and try different things. Experience is still the best teacher.
I hope to get a lot of experience in the up comming weeks

I know Driscol said long on the inside short on the outside but I disagree there as well and I only use 2 foot of seperation. Turning can be tricky but I do like DD does, yeah I said it, turn hard and straighten out for whatever gets my lines back straight and then turn hard again. Can ussualy turn around in a 50 yards circle that way, maybe a little more.
Time on the water is the key and taking some from each of us, man I was green as they come last May but by September was amazed at the difference. Have fun with it, find what works in your boat. I pull off the side to the front as well, makes landing a fesh a breeze with nothing else on the back deck.
Oh yeah, 300s the heck with everything else and I need about 50 more tonight!!!

G told it rite Gator he was running the boat most of the time and I was doing most of the rods. We ran all 6 rods with in 1 to 3 ft. of each other. I pulled one line part of the way in cause we caught a stripper and he crossed one line. We made several turns and no problem. We run the round wide swivells on all polls but not the little long slim ones baits won't run true with them. My 2 cents.
