Go with the best equipment you can afford. Fish about .5 and if that doesn't work go faster, if that doesn't work go slower. It's a productive way to fish, but it is not a fool proof solution to fish catching. At the end of the day, you still need to find fish, find the depth, and find what they're hitting. Spider rigging speeds this process up some unless you get a buncha poles hung up at the same time on a windy day. I know at Washington, the crappie gave us a pretty good whooping. The "good" fishermen (spider riggers, and single polers) all came home with fish in their box however they chose to fish that day.
Good luck with the endeavor and let us know how it goes.
One last thought about Washington. There was no thump when the crappie bit. It was more of a KAWHUMPH:biggrin
If you don't want to spend big bucks you can build rod holders from 4'' pvc pipe. That is if your 1/2 way mechanically inclined. You can cut them out with a drill, hole saw bit and a table saw.
thanks for the info ya'll and RCC the crappie gave me a pretty good whooping when I was their a couple weeks ago. I was trolling with a single line with a couple black and yellow tail jigs tied on it and never got a bite the 1st day I was their.

10-4 I'll give ya a call Bill.
There you go. Bill can fix you up with exactly what you need and you won't have to do it twice or more times (like I did) to get the right stuff.
Ok
I am gonna have some tight loks for sale as i like hi techs.
CrappieKeeper and I are both going to rig our boats with Hi-Teks. Seen a hung up jig pole the other day, in the back of a guys boat, turn a Hi-Tek clean towards the back of the boat and still not pull out the rod!
Buy good gear to start with. High Tech are great out the front, but you cannot drag crank baits with em - something you will want to do when the water gets hot. Drift Masters are hard to beat. First thing to buy is an UMBRELLA. The biggest mistake most people make is too wide a set up. You want everything out front. If you spread it out too wide, you will have to turn your head right to left constantly. After two days of fishing, you will feel like someone tried to twist your neck off. Keep it close so you can glance side to side. Ideal speeds are .3 to .8 - the warmer the water the faster. Spider rigging is addictive and a lot of fun. Tie up Capps - Coleman Rigs - don't make your drop lines too long - about 6". Get some big minnows and get in the middle of the lake. Now you are fishing the things you cannot see - not the things you can. Remember - big crappie spend 90% of their time suspended in open water. Good Luck!
Well said black fish
I pull cranks a lot with hiteks in back.....never a problem.
I've never had a problem pulling cranks with my Hi-Teks either. Pull from the side and back!!

I have had zero problems pulling cranks from any position.
I use Hi Teks and love em
My mistake - if these guys say you can use em for dragging crank baits - then I guess you can. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
I long line RoadRunners and I've pulled cranks with hi teks. For me they are a good all around rod holder. Also not a bad price for what you get.
I sure appricate all the tips and advice all ya'll have given me. I've only been crappie fishing for a couple yrs bc a older friend of mine got me into it after I blew my motor on my big Skeeter. Needless to say I'm addicted to chasing crappies along with bass I even bought another boat just to crappie fish out of lol So thank ya'll for all the info.
