I have never even seen it in person. Someday I will go there and fish, so I am watchin this one with interest.
^^^^^What he said^^^^^ But I can't imagine why it wouldn't work.
a couple of days now and not too much response could this be a secret ?
I can tell you a quick, cheap, easy way to figure out if it is worth getting rigged up for it. Pick up some road runners a few grubs and two 6'-6" to 7'-0" rods which you probably already have. Head out to areas where the fish usually spawn. Toss the jigs about 20-30ft behind the boat hold a rod in each hand. I don't have a varible speed trolling motor so i set mine on 3 and will weave from side to side while moving down the line i want to troll. The side to side motion is very important as it will cause the jigs to speed up and slow down depending on the side of the boat the jig is on and which way you point the boat. The jigs will only run about 6-8ft deep but you can add a split to get them a little deeper. This is a great method for locating fish and has caught fish from every lake i've tried it in. I've also had some success pulling crankbaits like this.
i'll give it a try sounds like a plan thanks
Dont worry...if you ever set your rig up for longlining then it'll stay that way!Thumbs Up:biggrin:biggrin
Yep...Panasofkee is terrible with weedsbanghead...Aint no way I'd ever try to pull that lake...But we have caught some mighty fine shellcrackers there.
I grew up on okeechobee and I've never seen no one try long lining there was alot of spider rigging though. I have not fished the lake since the mid 90's though so it may have changed some. There was alot of weeds where I usually found fish.
I know what you mean. The lake closest to me has standing timber in probably half the lake so there are just a limited amount of places where the shallows are clear bottoms and can be longlined in so I mostly fish a lake 30-45 minutes away.
Fortunately for me I live 7 minutes from Monroe and less than 3 from the river. Flip a coin in the morning to decide where to fish or look at the treetops for wind. I can longline either until the boat traffic starts on the river.
Bragger!!!!!!!RoflRoflRofl
Hey watch it!! That might offend Crappieday, he lives around the corner a touch closer. Sides, aint braggin ifin its the truth.
Actually yes I have seen it being done but you will need to know the lake pretty good and most of the action has been thru the main channels and keeping tight to the markers staying along the edge of drop off's .Yes they also do alot of spider rigging too and that produces well also. Some have done real well but they also have the electronics and topography maps to go along with knowing the lake and the gps location thats produced theyr hot spots . 497,000 acres is alot of water to cover and theyr in there for sure . It is one awsome lake to fish for sure but theres so many potential areas you could be out there for a month solid and still not cover enough water lol I will post the minuet i find out about southern lake okeechobee clewiston area slappin slabs im also waiting to here from old buddy who lives in moore haven what hes been doing this week which i will post hopefully before or on this friday . Hope info helps
Swamptoad, I would love to go back with the technology we have today. All I had as a kid was a push pole and a anchor to feel the bottom.
Guntersville is the closest lake we have around here to compare it to. While no where near as big of a lake. It is full of weeds . I've left a trolling motor prop at the bottom to prove it:rolleyes:. We usually end up trolling the weed lines and main channel down there and have caught some nice slabs using the method i suggested. But like you said electronics and scouting potential trolling lines are a must to find the weed lines and the channels. Either way there is only one way to learn, get out there and try.
my set ups are easy for okeechobee 2 ultralight spinners both double jigged with different colors 1 tipped with a minnow 1 tipped with grass shrimp thats what trolls behind me when im paddling or wind blowing me then i got 3 telescopic can poles 1 with a basic bobber rig with jig the other 2 just plain jig every color is different to find out pretty quick what they like its old school but thats how i learned i have had several limit days and nights then again other times enough to make a couple sandwiches and days when everything else will hit but crappie lol thats why its called fishing lol
