What does the Auto Pilot on a Minn Kota TM do??
Depends who is operating it. If its me, not a darn thing. ATM, will stay on whatever course u select and adjust speed/direction accordingly.
Don't set the auto pilot and get out to get a drink now.
It will generally keep you in the right direction and gives you remote control.

Sorry, couldn't resist.
Autopilot just lets you lock on to a direction, you can change the speed as you go but the direction won't change until you change it. I mean, it will correct itself but if you pointed it due N, it will go that direction until you change it or turn off auto pilot.
You have to have a remote for the iPilot or CoPilot features, but auto pilot and that long cable to the foot control is not a bad setup at all, you can control it from wherever that cable will reach, I think they're about 18' long.
can u use the auto pilot feature if the footpedal is removed and you are using the remote?
DH, I know you can on a V2 with iPilot because unless you have Cane's switch box you can't even use the foot pedal while iPilot is connected on a V2 anyway. I assume you can w/ copilot too but I've never used one.
Basically, when auto pilot is turned on, whatever direction you manually steer the motor too, with a remote or a foot pedal, it will stay on that course until you change it. Auto pilot doesn't have anything to do with speed, only direction.
+1 on what G said, I like the basic auto pilot the best, it goes by direction, not GPS heading.
On advanced auto pilot, it is like you laid down a string when you hit the button, so if the wind blows you off of that imagimary string, the advanced AP starts trying to take you back to that line rather than just going in a set direction....that's a good way to tangle up some crankbaits or jigs IMO :)
thanks, rtg.
no....I-Pilot has all the features of co-pilot and auto pilot and then more ........a Terrova with I-pilot allows you to record and keep in memory trolling tracks up to 5 miles long.....the older models like mine will record 3 tracks and the new ones will record 6 tracks. And you also have cruise control and spot lock.
thanks,g..........im thinking about eventually getting one.
Better check with Papermouth first. Think he'd rather have a power pole since he's a closet green carp fisherman.
Wannabe...
My pilot doesnt work if its windy or big waves cause all it does is spin around. Only thing makes it worth the money is the remote for it imo.
Are you sure you're not on advanced AP? If the N icon on the iPilot remote has a circle around it, that is in Advanced AP mode. For some reason, the iPilot defaults to Advanced AP mode.
The way to get it off of that setting is to hold the N button on the remote down for a couple of seconds until the circle goes away, then you are in regular AP mode and the direction should track A LOT better in the wind.
I hope that helps, it took me a little while to figure that one out when I first got the iPilot and I was frustrated just like you.
I gotta break down and read that manual.banghead
all this sound like you have to have a college degree to use it............one of the reasons i havent got one yet, lol.
I am gonna get me one of them Dummie books, bet WB's got one I can borrow.
You hold the N button down untill you hear it beep. Its really not that hard to figure out. It comes with a plastic laminated 5x7 card with quick easy instructions thats really better than the book.

Only time I use advanced IP is when trolling above .9mph (LL or trolling cranks) and it works great but under that it ant worth a flip.
