Is it too early to plant my maters, okra and pepper plants yet? Got the gardern tilled up and about ready. Has any of y'all done anything yet?

Long term weather models gfs showing cold front with possible heavy frost before easter. Info from behind the scenes talk of the National weather service employees. Anyone who doesn't know what gfs means, it's the computer program used to forecast weather.

If frost comes, it'll kill me. I got maters blooming, peas, green beans, corn, taters, squash, butter beans, and okra. I'm trying to get the jump on dry weather by planting early. Last year I didn't make squat because of no rain.

Creole and Arkansas Traveler are two good ones for the hot weather. Hard to find in garden centers, tho. I raise my own plants fron seed.

Ya know, most years it's much cooler in March than it's been this year nd I always wait until the weekend after Easter to plant. As warm as it's been I figured if the next month gets any hotter it aint really going to matter when you plant because it'll all burn up before it has time to produce:rolleyes: (supposed to reach 87* here tomorrow). I already planted peppers and maters....a week ago. If a late frost kills everything then I lost $10 (not a very big deal). If it doesnt frost again then I'm ahead of the game.

Brandywine and Mortgagelifter come to mind. The Rutgers is a little tart to me, course what you feed the plant has a lot to do with acid in the fruit.

I've had Maters, corn, squash, peas, Brocolli and Onions in the ground for a couple weeks. Dang flood rain we had bout killed em though.

I try to plant all heirloom maters. Mother wants better boy and roma.
Homestead nursery east of coldwater is a great place to buy plants.

I wait until they get maters in at the wholsale place and by a few bushels bout $10 a bushel and i am done.
