Hey what's the best way to hook a minnow?
You've got some great answers in your post on the main Crappie Forum.

thru there lower jaw and up thru there nose, right above the lips, since crappie usually hit them from the rear
I like thru the eyes they seem to last longer
it depends on what ur doing if ur trolling hook it through his lips if ur bobber fishin hook it in the meat directly behind th dorsal he'll sta alive longer
I hook them rather through the back right as you get to the dorsal, through the nose, or even in the back half of his tail. He will kick alittle more
threw the lips......if there dead I pinch the heads off and thread them on a small jig head and jig them over brushpiles (deadly, crappie can't resist them juices flowing out).
JUST FISH'IN!!!!!
I hook them just in front of the dorsal fin and bring it through beside the dorsal fin. They stay alive much longer that way I've found.
I really don't think it matters if they are alive or not. Of course I never let my cast just sit once casted, I'm always retrieving. Maybe having the minnow alive on a still cast will benefit you more.
I hook them two ways, thru the eye sockets or thru the belly and out the back. The last method keeps them on the hook longer and good for fast retrieves. It kills the minnow faster but I still catch tons of fish either way.
I like hooking thru both lips unless it's a very fast bite. Then anywhere I get 'em stuck works.Thumbs Up
Yeah, I recon if they are biting it don't really matter where ya hook um. I like to fish at night with flood lights. Sometime I think they would bite a naked hook then! LOL
