My Merc is sick, thought it was a fuel prob but when I pulled the plugs all 6 of then are covered with fuel. Fires off but falls on its face when you try to take off. Thinking power pack or coil pack.
Any thoughts, its an 82 model 200.

Call torch on monday. His brother works on about everyones outboard over here. He might be able to help
sounds like the coil . to me My 2 cents worth .
Me too, but I ain't no expert...but u probably already knew that.
Wannabe...
Got one and a power pack as well, may put the coil on first and see what it does.
Sounds like the carbs.Could be the floats sticking.
That was my thought at first but when I pulled the plugs all 6 were soaked, still fires off but runs like crap. Has 3 carbs on it so my thoughts are that the cylinders controlled by one carb would be the only 2 effected if that was it, had a float prob last year and that was how it was then.
Tried to turn it over and see if the plugs were firing but couldnt see any fire.
Is there any chance you got some water in the fuel?
Boat has been in the shed all winter, too, it started this crap last Sept at Fall Camp. Then it was getting run 2 or 3 times a week, was using some Stabill and then gave it a dose when I put it in the shed.
Carbs are pretty simple, may just start there and then go to the coil pack.
Good luck.
Is it charging OK it could be the Stator
Havent check that, last year on Sardis when it started this I came in from Clear Creek to Engineers Point at a whole 5 mph, volt gauge didnt fall off any. Will check that too, thanks.
Hey Rees check the Mechanics Forum , Archerguy told you how to check the stator
Cool, thanks. Been checking back.
Have you tried to pull each plug wire off one at a time while it is running to see if it is a certain cylinder that is affected?? If you pull a wire and nothing changes the wire or coil pack to that cylinder may be bad!!just a thought!!
Old geezer fishermen never die, they just smell that way!!
Here's the scoop so far, 1-3-5 arent firing and 2-4-6 are. Coils fire 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 so I dont think its a coil prob. Can the power pack or the stator cause this??
Wires coming out of the power pack runs 1-3-5 and 2-4-6.
Bad power pack or switch box, whatever u call it.
Thanks for the input guys, running lime a champ
