A Nice Fish - Milford
Was able to get out of work early today and headed to the water. Its still spring break and my 7y/o wanted to go. We launched about 3pm and ran up the lake to a couple of places. Quite a few boats out there. We did well today but as soon as other boaters would show up we would pull up and headed out. Not interested in having guys on top of me today. We found a sweet spot and started really getting good size hungry whites that absolutely were hammering the bait.

Today was even a better day. The smallmouth bass were very active, caught several nice ones. Big whites, usually I throw back almost everything or release it them at the dock area but tonight we cleaned them. Honey butter cornbread, cajun seasoned tator tots, and pepper/beer battered fresh fish.......it was a good day.
Since I am not a very good crappie fisherman I will post in the off topic area from now on....the post was moved anyway.....my bad.
I know how to catch fish almost always do and usually nice ones...just not crappie.
The Milford lake map that Jack from Great Plains loaded on my Garmin Nuvi seems to be very accurate so far. The depth of course is off by about 2-3ft on the map because the lake is low presently. But structure and contour is very nice to have in an electronic map. If you are going to fish Milford it is something to have with you and review. I have fished the lake now for 10 years. After reviewing it I used the map as a guide to a specific map contour area I never knew of. I thought based on structure and contour shown on the map, that spot should hold fish and it did......:biggrin

KAG I have never fished Milford. May make a trip there this summer with my son. We love to fish for Wipers and Whites. When it comes to kids...after catching a bunch of whites and wipers...crappie fishing can seem a bit boring. Thanks for the post.

We love crappie fishing but also love the whites and wipers. We are defninately hoping to make it to Milford at least once this year. I have a feeling there are many fishers on here who enjoy seeing the reports. We should start reporting on whites very soon. I have a 7 year old boy as well and when taking kids fishing they prefer the fight and fast action of whites over crappie almost every time.

This evening the lake was fairly calm and very nice out. The whites / wipers are starting to get active and not little ones. The ones we have been catches have all been nice fish. To be honest the wipers were cleaned and fried up were pretty tasty and I have no complaints. 5 fish feed us all plus some left over.
The small mouth bass are what is really heating up right now as they have started heading to the rocky areas in 3ft or so of water with deeper water near by. The walleye at the dam are doing very very well and I saw guys catching them on live bait. While the lake has crappie it has never been known as a crappie lake as much as a diverse fishery with some good fishing in it. The north end just needs some more water in it so i can fish it more, just not willing to get into large areas of 2ft water depth.
They cat fisherman have been also been really starting to do well here lately also.
